Job Description

Who we are:

Motive builds technology to improve the safety, productivity, and profitability of businesses that power the physical economy. Motive combines IoT hardware with AI-powered applications to connect and automate physical operations. Motive is one of the fastest-growing software companies in the world, serving more than 120,000 businesses, across a wide range of industries including trucking and logistics, construction, oil and gas, food and beverage, field service, agriculture, passenger transit, and delivery.

Motive is built on four foundational attributes; Own It, Less but Better, Build Trust, and Unlock Potential. This has taken our company to great heights, including being recognized by Fortune for Best Workplaces, Forbes Best Startup Employers, and Comparably for our Best Global Culture, Sales Team, Leadership Team, Career Growth, and CEO for Diversity. We’re proud to receive an employee net promoter score of 63 (according to Comparably) which places Motive in the top 5% of companies with 4,000 employees or more.

Today, our team is made up of more than 4,000 employees, located across the world, providing support to a wide range of customers. While most of our employees are remote, many have the opportunity to work on-site at any of our 8 global office locations. Visit our careers website to learn more about opportunities at Motive.

About the Role:

At Motive, the marketing team is responsible for maximizing growth and new customer acquisition across all that we do. The responsibilities of the team span the entire customer journey - from first touchpoint to upsell and retention. We put the user first - ensuring we are delivering on our core value proposition and putting the right message in the right moment.

As an SEO Lead, you’ll help us build our SEO practice from the ground up. You’ll partner with cross functional teams including product marketing, content, engineering, design, and analytics. You will build, prioritize, and manage our SEO roadmap, balancing short term improvements and long term strategic initiatives.

This role is remote and based in the US.

As a bonus, you’ll be able to embed yourself deep in the world of the physical economy and help understand the forces that govern it.

What You'll Do:
  • Help Motive drive growth across our O&O properties through first principles SEO strategy and cross-functional execution
  • Leverage a deep understanding of performance data and insights to drive decision making
  • Own our SEO revenue goals and be responsible for a prioritized roadmap of projects informed by customer search habits, pain points, and data insights
  • Help inform our top-of-funnel content strategy through your partnership with our content team, helping them prioritize projects and make decisions with clear understanding of what's working in terms of search demand, traffic, user engagement, and lead generation
  • Create and manage a prioritized roadmap based on identified growth opportunities, customer insights, competitive analysis, and business priorities
  • Oversee implementation of SEO recommendations across our properties
  • Develop creative ideas to help Motive maximize search visibility
  • Combine internal and external research to identify key growth opportunities
  • Analyze and report on site usability and make SEO-informed recommendations to teams responsible for site architecture, navigability, interactive elements, and content strategy
  • Advise editorial and product marketing partners on SEO best practices, including site and data architecture, URL structure, metadata, on-page copy etc
  • Stay updated on SEO developments, trends, and industry best practices
  • Monitor site usability across devices including slow-loading pages, abandonment points, bounce rates, issues with information architecture and taxonomy.
What We're Looking For:
  • 7+ years of web & digital marketing experience with a focus on SEO
  • Experience leading an in-house SEO program working closely with engineering, product, design, and content teams
  • A constant learner, with deep knowledge of the SEO tech landscape and you keep your finger on the pulse of how it’s rapidly evolving
  • Experience working with modern SEO tools like Botify, SEMRush, ScreamingFrog, SimilarWeb, Google Search Console, BrightEdge, ahrefs and others.
  • Hands-on and enjoy building, even if you are an experienced manager
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with ability to create, work and summarize large data sets into clear insights that inform decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, demonstrated experience briefing senior leaders on outcomes & recommendations, and an interest in teaching others.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, statistics, computer science, or related field.

Creating a diverse and inclusive workplace is one of Motive's core values. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives.
