Job Description

What we’re building and why we’re building it

Trellis is an insurtech start-up. Our mission is to build industry-leading solutions that make insurance easy for everyone, from consumers to partners to insurers. Our embedded insurance solutions bring the market's leading insurance brands into the apps and ecosystems consumers already use to help them find, compare, and purchase personal insurance, harnessing the power of their personal data.

We’re fast-growing! Our partners include 4 of the top 5 digital banks and 7 of the top 50 personal finance apps in both app stores, including Rocket Money (formerly Truebill), Albert, and Acorns. We have backing from multiple top venture capital investors, including QED (Credit Karma, SoFi), General Catalyst (Airbnb, Stripe), Nyca (Acorns, Revolut), as well as Amex Ventures.

We’re fully remote. We believe it allows us to find the best talent wherever it is, provide our team with maximum flexibility, and stand out to candidates.

Trellis is led by third-time fintech entrepreneur, Daniel Demetri, who has previously founded multiple fintech and insurtech startups that now operate as publicly-traded companies.

Our Values
  1. Extreme Ownership – We fulfill our promises to each other and to our customers. We own our responsibilities 110%.
  2. Speed – We work quickly and pragmatically. We move fast and get things done.
  3. Craft – We are constantly learning and bettering ourselves and the way we work.
  4. Collaboration – We work transparently, solicit feedback, and leave our egos at the door.
  5. Positivity – We see a cup half-full, focus on the team's potential, and rise to challenges..
About the role

Trellis is looking for a leader that will build the organizational capabilities to attract, develop and retain top talent. The opportunity is perfect for someone who has meaningfully contributed to scaling a talent organization and is ready to take ownership of doing the same.

The Head of Talent is a hands-on role with a small team that will drive outsized impact in our business. You’ll partner closely with functional leaders to build full lifecycle talent programs, including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, professional development and employee engagement. Importantly, you’ll be strategic about addressing the differential needs of our corporate and agency teams. Finally, you’ll ensure Talent operates as an outcome-oriented, metrics driven organization.

In this role, expect to
  • Work across the entire business, with teams like business development, product, engineering and consumer operations

  • Develop and execute talent acquisition strategies to attract and hire high-performing individuals who align with our company culture and values

  • Implement talent strategies with consideration for the unique make-up of our workforce (i.e., traditional early stage technical & business teams plus a fast-growing insurance sales team)

  • Design and manage performance management processes, including goal-setting, performance reviews, and feedback

  • Implement talent management programs to develop and nurture employees' career growth and promote retention

  • Drive employee engagement initiatives and foster a work environment that promotes a strong company culture

  • Build an outcome-oriented and metrics driven talent culture

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing talent team

To succeed in this role, you have
  • 7+ years professional experience in a startup or growth stage business, including 3+ years of management experience

  • First hand experience building a full lifecycle talent organization for rapid growth, ideally one with a “dual track” structure (e.g., corporate + agency)

  • Strategic acumen and outcome orientation; you know that Talent drives real, tangible business value and you can craft strategies around that

  • Ability to take an ambiguous problem, independently craft a work plan around it, and execute against that plan for 3-4 weeks at a time

  • Adaptability and empathy to build rapport with individuals in diverse functional areas and develop a deep understanding of their world

  • High energy, positive demeanor – you’ll often be the first face people see when they get introduced to Trellis and a regular “go-to” for team members at all levels

  • Low ego and a willingness to roll up your sleeves

You can address your application to Scott. In your response to what gets you excited about the role, use the final bullet to name the last song you heard on the radio (the actual radio).

Trellis is a fantastic place to work
  • Join a talented, passionate team that we call friends, mentors, and colleagues
  • Flat, collaborative, transparent culture; get in at the ground floor and be a true business partner
  • Opportunities for growth and development within your role and all areas of the organization
  • 75th-percentile (competitive!) compensation
  • 100% remote work environment
  • Quarterly, fun team bonding events

Trellis additionally offers competitive benefits:

  • Unlimited vacation time
  • 100% employer-paid insurance for employee, 60% for dependents
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • Bonuses and equity opportunities
  • Budget for home office equipment
