Job Summary
The Hedging Analyst will be responsible for managing the firm’s asset and liability exposure through capital market derivative trade execution and analysis (50% of time). This position will also be responsible for maintaining and developing quantitative models to analyze risk in the derivatives portfolio and provide system support for F&G’s derivatives trading activity (50% of time).
Analytical responsibilities will include the development and maintenance of derivative pricing models (options, currencies and swaps), managing the application development efforts to support the derivatives hedging portfolio, and bespoke index/payoff and new product analysis.
This role will have day to day interaction with external/internal counterparts including Wall Street, IT, product, sales and financial actuaries. This position sits in the Risk department and is focused on managing capital market risk within the assets and liabilities of the firm. This role will have no direct reports and reports to the Senior Hedging Analyst.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist traders with the derivatives trading process including trade execution, pre-trading compliance, trade entry, and trade processing issue resolution
- Support the expansion of the hedging platform and mitigate firm risk by upgrading the current infrastructure and helping design complex derivative trade ideas
- Modeling and quantifying risk including different market factor sensitivities and P&L attribution of an equity index option portfolio
- Develop valuation models to check broker quotes for derivative instruments including options and swaps
- Perform ad hoc analysis and back testing using Matlab, SQL or other analytic coding language for stakeholders across the firm
- Prepare derivative/hedging reports to share with senior management
- Monitor markets and oversee risk and compliance of the derivative portfolio
- Contribute to product development efforts by analyzing and recommending custom index strategies which will enhance F&G’s product portfolio offerings
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics
- 3+ years of investment experience or related business experience is required
- Progress towards or completion of CFA/FRM are preferred
- Experience in derivatives trading, modeling, risk analysis, and application development preferred
- Familiarity with the markets and an understanding of finance, mathematical finance, economics, accounting, investment, and insurance principles and practices
- Programming experience (VBA, MATLAB, Python, and Java preferred) and experience with working on RDBMS (SQL Server) is required
- Life/annuity insurance experience would be a plus but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong interest in capital markets, derivatives, portfolio management and loves to learn
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting such as Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint), Bloomberg and Blackrock Aladdin
- Demonstrated strong knowledge and expertise in derivative math, portfolio risk measurement and management techniques
