Job Summary

The responsibilities of the Investment Accountant, Derivatives Accounting include assisting with the transaction processing, accounting, and analysis of complex derivative investments (futures, currency swaps, credit default swaps, options, currency forwards, interest rate swaps) held by the Company. This position is part of the Close and Analysis team within the Company’s Investment Center of Excellence (COE) structure. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, enjoy collaborating with other teams, and have strong problem-solving skills.

This position reports to the Manager, Investment Accounting and will interact with other members of the COE team. This position will work closely with an external third-party investment accounting administrator, external investment Accountants and internal stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting and analysis for all derivative instruments held by the Company.
  • Assist with research of operational accounting and reporting requirements for new derivative instruments and assist with onboarding of derivatives into external third-party accounting system based on these requirements.
  • Prepare data, reports and reconciliations of derivative-related general ledger accounts. This includes working closely with the third-party accounting administrator to research and resolve variances and reconciling items.
  • Assist with the analysis of derivative investment results to explain derivative results each reporting period.
  • Perform SOX Control procedures for derivative accounting processes. Support auditors and internal controls team during their test work
  • Continuously challenge and improve processes to drive efficiencies in accounting processes and the production of deliverables.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-3 years of investment accounting experience, preferably with exposure to derivative investment accounting, financial reporting, or auditing experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Industry experience in life insurance or financial services industries preferred.
  • Experience with Clearwater Analytics, Oracle and Essbase software is a plus.

  • Able to work proactively and effectively communicate with all levels of management.

Other Requirements

  • Perform other functions, duties, and projects as assigned.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Minimal travel required (less than 10%).
