The Opportunity

This position works out of our Illinois locations in the Business Technology Services.

We are looking for a software engineer for digital technology solutions.

The engineer ensures the solution design outlined is delivered in line with best practices, embedding our standards of quality, reusability, scalability and configurability.

The engineer will execute true end-to-end development and testing of software products in an agile lifecycle. Partnering with key technical and business stakeholders, the agile developer will help refine the product vision, estimate and design a solution, create, purchase, or customize the requisite hardware and software to create the solution, ensure the quality of the final product through manual and automated tests, and support the new software as it is moved to production.

The engineer will guide and coach the developers (internal and external) on standards, code quality and continuous improvement opportunities.

You have worked on medium scale projects and want to take your impact to the global scale. You can work across multi-functional teams and multiple applications using the best each to meet business needs.

What You'll Work On

  • Actively participate in pair programming/development of software components by following Test Driven Design (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) best practices.
  • Break our existing monolithic applications into more modern microservices
  • Write well-engineered source code that complies with accepted standards passing our quality criteria (SonarQube, Veracode, OWASP 10).
  • Implement future proof API interface contracts, scalable and realiable micorservices
  • Create and nurture highly available, operationally efficient and scalable systems (skills in Kubernetes, Service Mesh, Prometheus, Kafka)
  • Lead software delivery by applying standards and working with cross-functional teams and technology stacks.
  • Design and implement full stack solutions (Java/Python, K8S, Kafka, containers and microservices)
  • Realize both short-term and long-term integration solutions for legacy systems, as well as confirm performance and usability standards. This includes not only extending legacy solutions but also assisting in various migration actvitiy to modern solutions.
  • Actively provide and follow up on software lifecycle (SLC) deliverables (unit test, security/vulnerability tests, performance tests, integration tests and, data privacy notices) and troubleshoot/support/ownership of bug fixs
  • Create supporting change control documentation including design documents, unit test, and deployment instructions.
  • Participate actively in the software release process, from design to implementation and production.
  • Enhance delivery systems with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Coach, encourage, and mentor fellow software developers

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required Qualifications

  • BSc. in Computer Science or a similar engineering discipline
  • +5 years of software engineering experience in building/implementing high performance and scalable server-side applications.
  • Hands on experience on implementing full stack solutions.
  • Hands on experience with container based development (i.e. Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher) and highly scalable messaging platforms (i.e. Kafka)
  • Strong experience on modern technologies ( i.e. nodejs, Python, Java, JavaScript, React,/Angular/Vue HTML5, CSS, Sass)
  • Applied experience on Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) and best practices.

Prefered Qualifications

  • Hands on experience on TDD, BDD, and XP development practices
  • Experience in the design, development, and deployment of highly scalable APIs on major cloud platforms
  • Hands on experience working with Lean / Agile development methodologies (XP preferred)
  • Hands on experience with Atlassian suite (i.e. Jira, Confluence) and source code management tools (i.e. Git, BitBucket, Harness)
  • Experience and knowledge on standards of data privacy (GDPR, CCPA) and PCI compliance requirements
  • Experience in application architecture, microservice architecture, event driven architectures, messaging systems, and domain driven design.
