Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Capital Project Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and assisting with various accounting functions. This role requires proficiency in accounting software and a solid understanding of financial principles to support our corporate finance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up new projects in the accounting system (budgets, cost codes, billing terms).
  • Track project costs (labor, materials, subcontractors, overhead) and ensure accurate coding.
  • Review and process project-related invoices, expense reports, and payroll allocation
  • Assist with monthly project cost reports and variance analysis.
  • Support project billing and invoicing (progress billing, cost-plus, milestone billing).
  • Maintain project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and funding agreements.
  • Reconcile project costs and revenues to the general ledger.
  • Assist with revenue recognition calculations under supervision.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules and responding to basic inquiries.
  • Communicate with project managers to resolve cost or billing discrepancies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of accounting or finance experience.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred).
  • Experience with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, QuickBooks) is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
  • Exposure to project-based or construction accounting considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of progress billing, holdbacks, or grants considered an asset.
  • Working toward CPA designation considered an asset.
