Lead Financial Reporting Accountant - Close and Analysis

Job Summary
The Lead Financial Reporting Accountant areas of responsibility include review of journal entries, account reconciliations, management of pieces within the financial close and reporting processes; analysis of quarterly/annual results; and other monthly close responsibilities required for internal management, SEC and statutory reporting. The Lead Financial Reporting Accountant will provide leadership to the other Financial Reporting team members and support requests from internal and external auditors.
The Lead Financial Reporting Accountant will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting and interact with other members of the Financial Reporting team and members of other teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviewing reconciliations and analysis of general ledger accounts and other financial data.
- Reviewing journal entries, evaluation and supporting analysis.
- Executing internal controls designed to mitigate identified risks within the financial reporting process.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and implementing changes necessary for strategic vision, including internal control enhancements to ensure risks are adequately mitigated.
- Assisting with requests of both internal and external auditors.
- Managing the monthly/quarterly close and leading the finance close activities.
- Researching and analyzing regulatory, technical or other information, as deemed necessary.
- Developing leadership skills and staff through on-the-job coaching, feedback, leading processes and leadership training.
- Assisting with ad hoc requests, special projects and other duties related to financial reporting and analysis, as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 5+ years of experience in financial reporting, accounting or auditing.
- Life insurance or financial services experience preferred.
- Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
- CPA license preferred.

- Regular and punctual attendance
- Ability to travel up to 10%, if not located in Des Moines
