Lead Signal Processing Engineer

About the Team
The Sensors Division within STR focuses on the development and analysis of advanced sensor systems in the RF, acoustic, and electro-optical domains. This includes the design and development of novel sensors and advanced information processing techniques from ideation to prototype implementations.
The Undersea Systems and Acoustics (USA) Group develops and delivers advanced undersea sensor and signal processing systems related to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and counter-ISR applications.
The Role:
The USA Group is hiring a mid-level professional with expertise in signal and information processing and experience with sonar and undersea technologies. In this role you will be part of a team focused on the design, analysis, testing, and implementations of advanced underwater systems in support of customers seeking innovative solutions to complex and challenging national security problems.
A successful candidate will have substantial knowledge and expertise in some of the following areas: statistical signal processing, array signal processing, tracking, data fusion, optimization, adaptive signal processing, digital signal processing, information theory, and have experience applying and implementing signal processing techniques to solve real-world problems. This position requires skills working as part of and leading multi-disciplinary teams designing and analyzing signal processing algorithms for complex systems. Strong technical, interpersonal, communication, and technical leadership skills are expected.
Who you Are:

• Doctoral Degree in a science related degree field (Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, Computer Science, Physics, etc.) or a Master's degree with 4+ years' experience
• This position requires a Top Secret security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government
• Technical leadership
  • Formulate and propose technical solutions (algorithms, approaches, etc.) that cover all stages of acoustic processing including but not limited to detection, beamforming, narrowband and broadband processing, tracking, classification, sensor/data fusion, and decision making
  • Articulate and communicate those solutions to team members and to Group and Division management
  • Technically execute on projects and/or help anticipate problems that need to be solved to achieve project objectives
  • Implement prototype algorithms in software (MATLAB, Python, C++) and possibly support the embedding of those algorithms into prototype hardware systems
  • Write and present technical presentations and reports
  • Mentor junior staff
• Project management and leadership
  • Lead teams and ensure a project's technical success by working with a program manager to meet all technical objectives given resource constraints
  • Support interactions and cooperate with other business support functions (finance, contracts, human resources, facilities, security, IT, etc.)
  • Contribute to and possibly lead proposal efforts

What you will Do:

• Strong signal and information processing expertise (statistical signal processing, array processing, signal modeling, linear algebra, probability and random processes, optimization, tracking/data fusion, adaptive signal processing, digital signal processing, information theory)
• Strong programming skills (especially C++, MATLAB and/or python)
• Technical project leadership experience
• Robust sense of initiative, a self-starter who can work independently
• Mission oriented with a strong ability contribute to team goals and work in a team environment to deliver real world results
• Good communication skills
• Proficient at technical writing

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with sonar processing chains, undersea systems, and undersea acoustics
• Experience interacting with U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government organizations and processes
