Job Description

Team: Finance

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Lead Tax Preparer in the United States.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role designed for an experienced tax professional who thrives in complex, high-volume environments and enjoys being deeply involved in the preparation and review of business tax returns. You will act as the key escalation point for challenging tax scenarios while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all filings. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will play a critical role in mentoring and developing team members, helping them build confidence and expertise. Working closely with tax leadership, you will help refine workflows, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen quality standards across the function. The role requires strong ownership of end-to-end tax preparation cycles, as well as the ability to balance production demands with coaching and process improvement. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented tax expert who enjoys both technical problem-solving and team development in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end preparation and review of business tax returns (including Forms 5472, 1065, and 1120), ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex tax cases, providing technical guidance and resolution support.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of tax returns and client communications to maintain high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Mentor and coach team members, supporting their technical growth and ability to handle complex tax situations independently.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Support workload distribution and capacity planning in collaboration with tax leadership to ensure SLA adherence.
  • Monitor key performance metrics including SLA compliance, QA scores, and ticket volumes, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Manage client-facing tax inquiries and escalations, ensuring timely and professional responses.
  • Track and coordinate extension filings to ensure timely and complete submissions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Customer Success, Data, and Operations to resolve systemic issues and improve processes.
  • Identify recurring client pain points and escalate process improvement opportunities to leadership.
  • Requirements:

    • 5+ years of experience in business tax preparation, with strong expertise in Forms 5472, 1065, and 1120.
    • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or team lead role within a tax or accounting environment.
    • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax law and ability to apply it to complex, non-standard scenarios.
    • Proven experience developing or enforcing SOPs, workflows, and quality standards.
    • Strong leadership and coaching skills with the ability to develop high-performing teams.
    • Experience managing high-volume workloads while maintaining accuracy and meeting SLAs.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to track KPIs and drive performance improvements.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
    • Experience with CRM or ticketing systems (HubSpot preferred).
    • Ability to work a hybrid schedule aligned with both European and U.S. time zones.
    • Preferred: experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma), bookkeeping knowledge, or client retention strategies.
    • Benefits:

      • Permanent full-time position
      • Competitive compensation package (details not specified in source)
      • Generous paid time off and sick leave
      • Opportunity to work directly with senior tax leadership and gain advanced technical exposure
      • Access to a collaborative, fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment
      • Flexibility through a hybrid timezone-based schedule
      • Exposure to process improvement and operational scaling initiatives
      • Additional perks such as free food, snacks, and pet-friendly office environment (where applicable)
      • Opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven company supporting global entrepreneurship
