Job Description

Summary: The Manager, DevOps will be accountable for overseeing a team of DevOps Engineers, Release Engineers, and Tool Administrators. As a Manager, the incumbent will be heavily involved in both development and operations, with responsibility for implementing and managing release processes for the progression of code in the integration, development, test, and production environments.

This will be a key strategic role, partnering with multiple organizations and technologies to design and implement a robust strategy and process for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, through multiple test environments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess and recommend common tooling for a diverse set of technology, applications and platforms.
  • Establish standards for continuous integration and delivery processes across the enterprise.
  • In collaboration with engineering and production, design and implement automated deployments of infrastructure and software changes, through various test environments.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Negotiate, plan, and manage all release activities.
  • Partner with infrastructure teams to provision virtual machines with proper requirements, utilizing scripts and automation tools.
  • Regular communications and status update to senior leadership on release status and progress on team initiatives.
  • Mentoring, training, and day to day management for a team of release engineers, DevOps engineers and tool administrators.
  • Actively removing barriers for team members to ensure all activities proceed on schedule and within budget.
  • Helps foster a culture of continuous improvement and best practices. Constantly explores ways to increase efficiencies and productivity by reducing waste and avoid unnecessary costs.
  • Continuously reviews department strategy and is a champion for new ideas that drive innovative thinking and actions.
  • Provides ongoing mentoring, guidance and troubleshooting support to engineering teams on how to streamline build, automation and deployment processes.
  • Establish standards for effective enterprise-wide Software Configuration Management.
  • Integrate performance and security validation to continuous delivery pipeline.
  • Ensure all continuous integration and delivery processes meet audit guidelines, properly storing all required documentation and approvals.
  • Design all CI/CD solutions for reuse, with repeatable, reliable, and scalable tooling and processes.
  • Perform ongoing evaluations of industry trends and tooling, to ensure we are providing best in class solutions.
  • Ensures appropriate, timely, and effective escalation of issues and major risks to senior IT Management and/or functional area management.
  • Fosters a transparent and proactive culture to identify, communicate, and mitigate issues and risks.
  • Ensures that department managers, team members and support processes meet or exceed the Enterprise IT, Security, Architecture and Corporate Audit approved standards & methodologies.

  • Conducts periodic staff meetings to include timely distribution and education related to departmental and Ethics/Compliance information.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field. Masters preferred.
  • Ten years related work experience.
  • Working knowledge of IT best practices, cloud services, virtual machines, and open source technologies.
  • Broad working knowledge of build automation, deployment and configuration management tools.
  • Extensive experience across the software development lifecycle with an emphasis on rigorous development practices, including software version control, coding standards and naming conventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand root-causes of complex systems issues - and provide debugging support as needed.
  • Proactive personality with a proven track record of following through and delivering on responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated competencies of managing staff and leadership.
  • Highly adaptive worker with experience influencing and working as part of an extended team.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with other organizations and business departments.
  • Experience managing third-party contracts (both vendors and contingent staff) preferred.

Travel Requirements:

Ability to independently travel across region.
