Position Summary:
The Manager of Product Design is a strategic thinker with a passion for great user experience and design leadership. They play a pivotal role in defining and leading the execution for critical work within the Product and Engineering department, and they combine their deep expertise in user-centered design with confident leadership to shepherd a team of designers working on an important part of our product ecosystem. They lead by example, jumping in to conduct workshops and lead design efforts while helping their team continue to build their own skills.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Own the design vision for a key focus area of our product and lead a team of designers on the successful accomplishment of project goals within that area.
- Effectively communicate and evangelize design thinking throughout the organization with compelling storytelling.
- Grow the skills of the designers you directly manage, as well as helping to shape the direction of the Pax8 Design team as a whole.
- Champion empathy for people who use Pax8 products; let their needs guide us to the best solutions and inform the product roadmap
- Collaborate closely with our Product and Engineering partners in an agile environment; deliver innovative design experiences to our customers at each stage of their journey
- Ensure the delivery of a consistent user experience across the product by taking ownership of the work and responsibility for every detail, every step of the way.
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least ten (10) years of design experience
- At least 3 (3) years of management experience
- Experience designing products using emerging technologies for web, mobile, and other devices
- Have a broad range of skills with strengths in visual product design
- Ability to champion user-centered design principles and methodologies
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to other designers
- Ability to grow design practices to deliver a unified product, from concept to implementation
- Experience sketching concepts, defining flows, building prototypes, or polishing final designs
- Great communication skills to advocate for the needs of the experience and manage delegation of responsibilities to make the strategy come to life
- Ability to optimize experiences through user feedback and research, contextual interviews, analytics, and competitive/analogous research
- Proactive, creative, adaptable, and collaborative
- Ability to create a range of engaging, elegant, easy-to-use, and technically feasible ideas
- Ability to show us a portfolio showcasing an appetite for designs that push boundaries and takes risks
- Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
- Ability to build strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions
- Ability to provide direction, delegation, and removal of obstacles to get things done
- Ability to paint a compelling picture of the vision and strategy that motivates others to action
- Ability to handle conflict situations effectively, with a minimum of noise
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Outstanding documentation and communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Required Education & Certifications:
- B.A./B.S. in Technical Communications, English, Writing, UX Design or related field or equivalent work experience
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $145,000 or more depending on experience
