As a Software Engineering Manager you will be leading a team of talented and driven software and quality engineers responsible for building and enhancing our core CRM application. You are a dynamic, hands on manager who thrives on new challenges and is excited about staying close to the code. In this role you will be leading a team that builds modern web applications that are secure, perform at scale, and are highly configurable. You will work closely with your peers in cross functional teams and be the champion for the teamâs technical roadmap and architecture.
Impact you will make in the role:
- Manage the performance and professional development of a team of up to 12 software development professionals. This includes, but is not limited to:
- ¡ Establishing personal goals for team members.
- ¡ Conducting performance reviews for team members.
- ¡ Helping identify career paths and aiding in the career development of staff.
- ¡ Identifying organizational leaders and delegating effectively to senior organizational leadership.
- Guide team development efforts towards successful project delivery.
- Provide technical guidance to teammates through coaching and mentorship.
- Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing best practices.
- Estimate anticipated deliverables both for time and complexity
- Lead by example with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and focus on quality.
- Collaborate with other software engineers, product managers, and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain various software products.
- Work with peers to implement efficient scrum-based software development processes
- Own the development of the core CRM application and other CRM based applications as well as common components of SugarCRMâs products and platform.
- Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers
- Continually look for ways to improve our code base and evaluate new technologies.
- Contribute to the deliverables of the team through delivery of code, testing, documention, proofs of concept, and/or diagraming
- Ensure delivery of clean, maintainable code and automated tests.
- Participate in functional requirements and design documentation.
- Interview potential candidate engineers and interns.
- Deliver Product Group presentations and demonstrations for the team.
Expertise you will bring in:
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, or related field or foreign equivalent, plus 5 years of professional experience in a technical position in a software development organization. The position also requires:
- 5+ years as a software engineer in a professional software development organization
- 3+ years of experience with, or development of, CRM applications with an emphasis on SugarCRMâs core platform and products, including Sugar Market, Sugar Serve, Sugar Sell, and Sugar Mobile
- 3+ years of full stack web application development, including UI design, UI development, client-side technologies, JavaScript frameworks that include Backbone, Underscore, Handlebars, Webpack, PHP extensions and libraries, and test automation
- 3+ years of experience with object-oriented design, development, RESTful APIs, testing methodologies, server-side programming languages (PHP is a must), web services, and relational databases
- 3+ years of experience with scrum-based software development tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence
- 1+ year of experience with a large-scale enterprise product and/or distributed SaaS systems
- 1+ year of experience leading all ceremonies for a Scrum team, including daily scrum, end of sprint retrospectives, sprint planning, grooming meetings, and prioritization of work; participate in Scrum of Scrums and biweekly Sprint Reviews
- 1+ year of experience conducting weekly one on one meetings with staff, setting corrective action plans, executing action plans, and tending to the needs of the team
- Excellent time management skills with an emphasis on managing remote resources around the world and across many different time zones
- Identification and management of risks and dependencies, both internal and external
- Ability to identify and coordinate delivery of dependencies across multiple teams and products
- Long term vision that promotes short term deliverables in quarterly release format based on factual, data driven scope definitions
- Strength in planning, scheduling, executing, and finalizing delivery on regular two-week sprint cycles based on individual capacity and team velocity
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and across differing types of audiences
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with differing consumers, stakeholders, team members, partners, and customers
