The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Strategy Principal for the Bank Marketing team.

This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Charlotte, NC; Colorado Springs, CO or Tampa, FL. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds - collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.

Bank Marketing team is the growth engine for the USAA Bank and we passionately market all of our products (credit cards, deposits, consumer loans, and mortgages) to both our members and prospects. We are experts in direct response marketing channels, and we believe in making data driven investment decisions. We understand that customer decision journey varies for each product, and we develop product-specific go-to-market plans, marketing strategies, and creatives. Our campaigns reflect our brand personality, our mission to serve those who serve, and our knowledge of bank products.

The Marketing Strategy Principal will report to USAA Bank's Head of Marketing, and will lead the bank marketing strategy, annual planning processes, monthly performance updates, and implementation of product-agnostic marketing initiatives. Accountable for accelerating growth through hypothesis-driven problem solving, research, data analysis, and executive communication.

A highly visible leader this role will actively participate in the Bank Marketing leadership meetings, motivating the marketing team through influence and leadership. This executive will cultivate cross-functional relationships that improve processes, enhance alignment across the enterprise, and advance a progressive and digital-first marketing strategy.

Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit are key to success in this role.

What you'll do:

  • Works directly with senior level executives to define the business problem and structure the strategic engagement plan.
  • Leads cross-functional, matrixed teams to solve highly complex and high value business problems.
  • Provides thought leadership that directly shapes the analysis, design and implementation of business performance approaches, developing tailor-made solutions, while working closely with clients to ensure positive impact and sustainable results.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day execution of one or more strategy engagements and the quality of all end products.
  • Responsible for developing more junior team members assigned to support strategy engagements.
  • Proactively communicates high quality updates to executives and other key stakeholders. Collaborates with key stakeholders and LOB leaders to create written and verbal communications to executives that provide clear guidance on strategy timeline, owners required investments, and expected results.
  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
  • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.

What you have:

  • Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of strategy consulting experience to include 6 years of experience leading strategy engagement; marketing strategy preferred.
  • Deep expertise in industries such as financial services and MarTech.
  • Ability to identify strategy needs and lead all aspects of projects with sound business recommendations and alignment with key business partners.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing business decisions.
  • Mastery of Technical Consulting Skills: hypothesis-driven problem solving, primary market research (e.g.: interviews), secondary market research (e.g.: desk research), data analysis (e.g.: what-if, sensitivity, etc.); synthesis (e.g.: so what?); pyramid principle/ story-telling; written communications; visual display of quantitative information; PowerPoint/ Excel; presentation skills; meeting leadership; verbal communications; teaming; project planning.

What sets you apart:

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner [optional]
  • Experience developing and leading marketing strategy for bank products (Card, Deposits, Consumer Lending, Mortgages).
  • Experience in leading annual planning, monthly forecasting, and to-date trend analysis.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $175,090 - $334,710

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
