Qualifications
The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
- Ability to do the work of a Materials Examiner and Identifier (FLO) without more than normal supervision: I perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision such as: moves, stores and picks a variety of materials; loads and handles material and determines how items are to be received and identified.
Physical Effort: Performs moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand-truck. They may lift or carry items that weigh up to 50 lb. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Performs work on hard surfaces, over rough terrain and on forklifts. Assignments require prolonged working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, standing, walking, bending, stooping and pushing and pulling material.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside warehouses that may be hot, cold, damp and drafty and in outside areas, i.e., dock areas, scrap yards, or other areas exposed to varying weather conditions. Is exposed to physical hazards normally associated with scrap yard, open storage, and warehouse operations including various kinds of material handling equipment and hand and power tools. Wears safety equipment as required. Incumbent must exercise precautions to avoid injury to/from carelessness of others in operation of fork lifts and other equipment in the work area. SAFETY AND HEALTH RESPONSIBILITIES: As a condition of employment, incumbent shall adhere to all safety standards, rules, regulations, and procedures and use personal protective equipment and devices as required and work in a safe and healthful manner. Must remain continually aware of the necessity for job safety and health precautions. Must immediately report all occupational mishaps, illnesses, and injuries to supervisor on day of occurrence. Reports and corrects, where possible, unsafe and un-healthful conditions to supervisor. Any person(s) performing the duties in this position description may be required to participate in a medical surveillance program. Inclusion in the medical surveillance program will be determined by the DLA Disposition Services/DRMR Safety and Occupational Health Manager, in conjunction with the host industrial hygienist/bio-environmentalist.
Additional information
This is an Expeditionary Civilian (EC) position, and the incumbent will be designated as (Emergency Essential (EE). In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent may be required to deploy via temporary reassignment or be required to stay in place to support contingency operations. The incumbent may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively; therefore, the position requires the incumbent to be screened from military recall. Military Reservists selected for an EC position must arrange for removal from the reserve component prior to appointment to an EC position. This requirement must be met prior to placement in an EC position. Positions identified as EE are subject to deployment to combat support situations. Deployment will be via Temporary Duty (TDY) orders. Deployment may entitle the employee to additional monetary compensation dependent upon the deployment location. Additional allocations are based on the Department of State's determination of a combat zone.
The incumbent is subject to repeated deployments. Duration of deployment generally does not exceed six months with a possible dwell time of 12-18 months. The incumbent may be required to deploy as soon as 90 days from their return. The incumbent must sign the Statement of Understanding and Agreement for Expeditionary Civilian (EC) positions indicating at all times to meet and maintain readiness requirements and be fully equipped, trained and qualified to deploy. When not in a deployment status the work performed at your home station is to compliment the operations at the DLA Disposition Services location.
