What You'll Do
Munchkin offers challenging internships for law students in the specialty area of Patent Law. Munchkin's internship program would provide aspiring patent attorneys with a thorough exposure to the profession. The candidate would work under Munchkin's Patent Counsel's mentorship and assist with a variety of projects related to patent prosecution with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. We are currently considering candidates local to our headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. We do not offer relocation assistance.• Prior Art Searches (techniques and resources)• Draft and File Patent Application Domestically and Internationally• Collaborate with inventors, Marketing, Product Development, et al.• Prepare formal documents for filing• Assignment / Declarations / Information Disclosure Statements• Analyze and prepare Responses to Patent Office Communications• Amendments (1st Office Action / Final / After Final)• Appeal Brief• Research, Analyze and Draft Clearance Opinion• Research, Analyze and Draft Non-Infringement Opinion• Docket and keep files• Litigation support
Bring It!• Prospective candidates must have completed their first year in law school with strong writing and academic grades.• Candidates must possess the basic skills and technical qualifications (e.g., a Bachelor of Science in Engineering) entailed in becoming a Patent Attorney.• Advanced degrees, MBA and candidates who are eligible to be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office are preferred.• Technical work experience is highly valued, especially industry experience in designing, developing and testing.• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with people of all levels and ability to function in a team environment.• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.• Strong analytical skills. Must be able to think outside of the box, determine solutions, make sound judgments and carry out actions in an effective manner.• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize work without missing critical deadlines.
