This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator license.
- Incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
- Incumbent must pass, within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Must be able to obtain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), Public Safety Commission, for access to and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information and operation of NLETS/ NCIC terminals.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment medical examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for the GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining order and protecting life and property; responding to emergency calls, complaints, or other calls during shift; and completing police/security reports or forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience for the GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience which includes performing law enforcement work which involves basic laws, regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and/or techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and/or property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
