Leadership skills are essential in communicating to team members their productivity goals and facilitating safety training. The manager will be required to produce accurate and timely reports for production data and expenses related to print jobs. Assist with scheduling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 50 pounds.
The annual salary is $78,000.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. This role is eligible for a bonus based on performance. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).

Essential Functions:
- Coach, develop, and evaluate performance for the pressroom staff, effectively recommending hiring, promotion, and termination, disciplinary and commendatory actions of all assigned personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including facilitating a monthly safety training program.
- Maintain effective, open communication within the department, providing a favorable work environment based on fairness, dignity, and respect for employees.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate payroll for pressroom department; track and schedule employee vacations to make sure all time is being taken.
- Provide month-end reporting data for the Production Director as needed.
- Monitor and troubleshoot newspaper production equipment during operation to detect the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement; have faulty equipment or systems repaired.
- Clean up tasks in the pressroom, including daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks.
- Cover vacations and sick leave on the press.
Competencies & Skills:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Service-minded individual that works well with internal and external customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Troubleshooting instincts in all pressroom areas.
- Responsible for newsprint inventory and monthly newsprint orders.
- Leadership & general managing skills.
Required Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- A minimum of five (5) years of operating offset newspaper presses and supervisor experience.
Work Environment:
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job in a manufacturing/production environment.
- This job operates in a printing plant environment. Often extended shifts, and a need to respond to requests day or night.
- This role routinely uses forklifts, ladders, tools, and equipment but also standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
- This job is not a remote position; the employee will report to our printing plant.
- Must be able to work with chemicals, loud noise, dusty areas, and moving parts safely while using the appropriate PPE.
