Job Description

Description
STR is a privately-owned, rapidly growing business focused on research and development (R&D) for the defense and intelligence communities. STR has approximately 600 employees, principally at sites in Woburn, MA, Dayton, OH and Arlington, VA. We also have a new and growing site in Carlsbad, CA.
We are a nationally recognized leader in research areas including data analytics, sensors and signal processing, electronic warfare, cyber, video and image understanding, command and control, and precision navigation. Several programs have transitioned advanced technology to military and intelligence users. While our primary focus is on serving US Government customers, we are pursuing commercial applications as well.
The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. Within these specialties, we perform work ranging from full-system prototypes to technology component development. Specialties within the Sensors Division include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.
Brief Overview:
The newly formed Autonomous Mission Systems group within the Sensors division of STR will develop new architectures, technologies, and operating concepts to enable operators to leverage autonomous systems to fight more effectively. This will include performing top-down systems analysis, mission engineering, and systems engineering along with bottom-up technology development and prototyping.
The relevant technology areas include AI/ML approaches, data assimilation and state estimation technologies, image and signal processing, control theory, and other algorithms that enable smarter machines. The relevant system domains span under-sea, sea-surface, land, air, and space. The relevant mission sets include air dominance, space dominance, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, and electronic warfare. We rely heavily on performance models and simulations to make large system-level trades.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Initially, this role will be focused on radar signal processing efforts across the company, with an evolving but sharpening focus on autonomy and the AI/ML technologies that enable autonomy in the coming years.

Requirements
  • Hands-on experience developing radar modes (SAR, MTI, ISAR, etc)
  • Advanced signal processing. Knowledge of RF systems and their performance drivers (SIGINT, EW, Communications, Radar, etc)
  • An understanding of fundamental physics across a wide set of sensor types
  • Machine Learning experience, state estimation (Kalman Filters), image processing
  • Applicants must be US Citizens

Education:
  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics. B.S + 17 years experience or M.S. + 15 years experience or Ph.D. + 10 years experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active clearance. Experience managing a team of technical professions in the defense industry.
