Principal Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher
Job Description
The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) in the STR Sensors Division develops advanced signal processing algorithms, conducts experiments, and prototypes systems for next generation radar and electronic warfare systems. Our team consists of passionate and motivated engineers with advanced degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, and physics, who are seeking opportunities to use their deep technical knowledge and creativity to tackle some of the hardest problems that our customers face. We actively collaborate with research engineers across STR, as well as with academic researchers and industry partners to develop practical and powerful solutions to RF sensing challenges.
As a Principal Algorithm & Signal Processing Researcher , you will develop and apply state of the art signal processing and machine learning techniques to a variety of problems including classification, electronic protection, signal detection and characterization, autonomous sensor decision making, and much more-all to help address national security and safety needs. You will work closely with other researchers to develop cutting edge systems and work collaboratively with our software engineers to design and transition your techniques into production. You will interact with customers to understand requirements and apply iterative feedback to development to respond to their most critical problems.
Our ideal candidate possesses leadership skills and working knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
RF and radar signal processing, optimization, electronic warfare, machine learning, adaptive signal processing, algorithm development, test & evaluation, model & simulation, or systems engineering.
Because we have a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, our perfect candidate also has a strong desire to learn about new, interesting problem domains. We prioritize collaboration and team culture in addition to being results-oriented, and therefore we always seek researchers and scientists with excellent written and verbal communication skills. T he role of a successful candidate will be tailored to fit within the existing team and leverage their strengths while enabling them to grow their career in both technical and leadership aspects.
What You WIll Do:
- Design and apply state-of-the-art signal processing and machine learning techniques to address RF and radar sensing challenges
- Provide technical leadership to small, multi-disciplinary teams as appropriate
- Collaborate with diverse teams to develop and deploy cutting-edge capabilities into prototype systems
- Design and implement models and simulations of advanced RF systems
- Interact with customers to understand requirements and national security needs
- Support business development and proposal writing efforts
Who You Are:
- Experienced researcher and team member who is excited to work with mission partners to leverage cutting-edge technology and research for immediate impact
- U.S. citizen with active Security Clearance, and eligible to support special access programs
- Excellent communicator and briefer, who is comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python
- Desired Experience: 5+ years for PhD, 8+ years for MS, 10+ years for BS
Even Better:
- Demonstrated leadership of complex research, development, and engineering efforts
- Experience with RF technologies in the defense sector, particularly for sensing and electronic warfare applications
- Ability to apply novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to challenging engineering problems
- Ability to create and present deep technical briefings as well as high-level briefings to Customers and senior management
- Ability to survey literature to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets
- Understanding and experience in interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical solution
Education:
- PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline
While this position is ideally suited for a senior engineer, individuals with fewer years of experience are also encouraged to apply to work with our team leaders and have meaningful impact on our nation's safety and security
