Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services and our team is focused on delivering high quality infrastructure to support cloud operations. As Microsoft's Cloud business continues to mature, our infrastructure expansion accelerates, and Data Centers are central to this growth. To support this, the acquisition and development of our owned, designed, and constructed Data Center facilities will scale to meet the demands of our customers, while we also continue to lease and acquire Data Center capacity at pace, particularly in our high growth markets, working closely with Data Center operators in each region, and across the globe.

The Principal Business Architect for the Energy team will design and develop enterprise level architecture, enabling attainment of business strategy and advancing the Energy organization from its current state to its desired state. This includes evaluation of the overall maturity level of the organization across processes, people, and technology; creating a clear picture of where investments need to be made to address capability gaps that may prevent us from reaching full potential. This position will ensure there is a repeatable and efficient approach to evaluating both operating and business models to broadly support organizational change efforts, specifically focused on transformation. As the Principal Business Architect, you will be responsible for translating our OKRs (objectives and key results) and business initiatives into a refined strategic business capability roadmap with functional definition and clarity, while championing business case development for funding and approvals. Responsibilities

  • Maintains holistic, multidimensional architecture of organizational desired and as-is state, comprised of business processes, information flows, reporting and technical infrastructure.
  • Identifies approaches and capabilities needed to disrupt existing processes, drive value, improve customer experience, and overall competitiveness.
  • Evaluates maturity of business and operating models across the organization; leads gap evaluation to inform the overarching business re-architecture roadmap.
  • Ensures that all proposed and approved programs align and add to the defined business architecture.
  • Responsible for the rationalization of investments (business case, return on investment, and hurdle requirements are met) across technology, data, and resource solutions ensuring they effectively address the business capability needs and enable execution of our business objectives. Ensures teams are following a uniform strategy to develop value proposition.
  • Works across business segments to lead envisioning efforts for mid- and long-term strategy, providing clarity and organization of the future state that the business architecture must support.
  • Drives strategic engagement with Energy org functional leaders, acting as a trusted advisor to transform and scale business operations. Consulted on all major process, technology, or data change projects.
  • Oversees business transformation initiatives, ensuring well socialized change programs, high user adoption, and business value realization.
  • Champions operational excellence by establishing Business Value Delivery metrics that are meaningful and action-oriented to ensure progress against overall goals, establishes process for regular assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Drives consistency and standards across both business and digital domains to support the organization's vision and strategy.
  • Develops best practices for tooling and business insight adoption. May empower teams to update resources and produce developmental tools to enable successful use of new solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in energy, sustainability, product/technical program management, data analysis, or economics
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects in a hyper-scale data center environment with a focus on energy.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in energy, sustainability, product/technical program management, data analysis, or economics
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 5+ years people management experience.
  • Experience in successfully working with both technical and business subject matter experts across multiple organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to define customer-focused scenarios, author business cases and track value realization, and drive keen insights and identify opportunities to develop solutions.
  • Previous experience in datacenter infrastructure management.

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
