Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Azure Memory and Storage Center of Excellence (AMS COE) is part of the SCHIE organization focusing on Memory and Storage devices going into the Cloud hardware servers. AMS provides memory and storage solutions to Azure, driving memory and storage suppliers to deliver high quality products, meeting our requirements.
We are looking for a Principal Cloud Hardware Engineer to lead the technical development of advanced hardware accelerators. You will be responsible for the product hardware and software technical specifications, as well as the product test specifications. You will partner with Azure Engineering teams across Microsoft, external suppliers, and technology partners to ensure the product is delivered and tested to its design specifications. You will work directly with cross-functional technical program management, internal customer engineering groups, Azure Operating System (OS) & Software, to get your product integrated in various Cloud hardware storage solutions.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of technical engineering experience
o OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
o OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
o OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
- 10+ years of hardware/firmware development experience with a track record of product deployment in the field.
- 5+ years of experience of NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD) based storage systems solutions.
- 5+ years of leadership experience as a product or technical lead
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate with executives and technology leaders inside and outside Microsoft.
- Ability to lead collaborative technical projects from conception to successful implementation. Demonstrated ability to achieve results.
- Drive through ambiguity, self-motivation and thrive on minimal supervision. Sound judgment, decision-making skills, and ability to work in a volatile and high paced environment.

- Intellectual curiosity and a passion about learning and deploying new technologies.
- Experience in large-scale distributed systems and datacenter infrastructure.
- Familiarity and Understanding of Azure technologies ( azure.com )
- Relevant experience with server design beyond hardware, including firmware and software.
- Experience in E2E hardware product development with track record of delivering leading edge technology combined with business acumen, ability to execute in a fast-paced environment and being customer focused.
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for delivering technical specifications for Non-Volatile Memory express (NVMe) subsystem.
- Responsible for reviewing and signing off on design and implementation specs.
- Responsible for ongoing support for implementation team(s) to ensure final product is meeting design specification.
- Collaborating with the larger team on technical workstreams outside the NVMe subsystem.
- Influence process improvement through end to end (E2E) development and integration cycle.
- Support validation and bring up-Lab activities.
- Build solid relationships with technology and development partners to influence product roadmap.
