What You’ll Do

The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) Our core development focus is the host interface firmware layer that sits in the intersection of system software and flash management firmware. This key host interface firmware technology drives Samsung’s breakthrough V-NAND technology and enables our customers to power performance-oriented, demanding, enterprise-class applications ranging from hyper-scale data centers, to big data processing, to software defined virtualized storage arrays and infrastructures.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated engineer to develop and support our cutting edge Data Center NVMe SSD products.

The ideal candidate should be well versed in performance analysis, including a deep understanding of the bottlenecks in the hardware/software/kernel stack. This position will require a root causing and overcoming performance limits and working with other engineering teams to showcase our products to demonstrate the highest impact on performance. 

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time the remainder of your time.

  • Analyze and debug performance issues in customer storage system environments
  • Work on performance characterization with state-of-the-art Storage products.
  • Define Performance measurement methodology to showcase system performance, Peak performance & competitive advantage
  • Publish collateral to support findings and evangelize leading edge product offers
  • Keep up-to-date on competitive solutions, products, and services
  • Engage with marketing teams and customers to ensure successful showcase of product features and value with major opportunities and deployments

What You Bring

  • BS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science, and 20 years of relevant experience in software or firmware or a MS in Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science with 18 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience with Linux and Windows systems performance analysis using techniques like CPU profiling, tracing by using standard Linux/Windows tools.
  • Familiar with Linux/Windows operation and performance analysis & debug of SSDs, PCIe & NVMe protocols, including knowledge of relevant debug tools protocol analyzers  Excellent troubleshooting abilities spanning multiple software and hardware components & layers (such as switches, storage systems, kernels).
  • Experience with debugging storage device issues with blktrace, blkparse, btrace and btt in Linux environment
  • Hands-on experience performance tools such as FIO, vdbench, etc
  • Python software development and C/C++ programming
  • Understanding of NAND
