Principal Hardware Engineer

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organization is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Principal Hardware Engineer, you will help influence the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Responsibilities:

Design

• Responsible for pathfinding and architecture, to deployment of robust and scalable solutions, complex make-versus-buy decisions, including but not limited to automation, thermal-mechanical and cross functional solutions.
• Drive engineering rigor across multiple organizations by spearheading pragmatic innovation, authoring of specifications and requirements that lead to robust designs.
• Hold a deep technical understanding of automation, robotics, and an understanding of the business impact of each.

Testing and Verification

• Expert knowledge in testing and verification, from partnering and procuring resources to learning and successfully implementing test plans for optimal results in cross functional testing of Hardware.
• Drive and collaborate with engineers, suppliers, customers to understand complex use cases and translate them into testing scenarios.
• Define, implement and monitor qualitative metrics to move business objectives and projects forward.

Project Implementation

• Proficient in project management of single and multiple projects.
• Drive external as well as internal partners and stakeholders to deliver the technical needs of the project.
• Tie the needs of the business directly to the goals of the project and deliver measurable results.

Reporting and Documentation

• Excellent organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks and complex projects simultaneously.
• Hold the ability to describe complex problems in a concise manner while also providing a deep understanding of the details when needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 15+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.

Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
