Principal Hardware Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Principal Hardware Systems Engineer to join the team.
As a Principal Hardware Systems Engineer, you will collaborate with several functional teams and lead the integration of cutting edge AI hardware, drive complex challenges to resolution, and develop validation strategy as well as influencing next generation hardware architecture to deliver the highest quality solution to the customer. Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with architecture, silicon engineering, firmware, hardware design, hardware validation, OS (operating systems), manufacturing, and customer teams to build state-of-the-art AI hardware solutions.
- Drive system and platform bring up of the next generation of HPC hardware.
- Develop platform validation and debug strategies and flows while ensur ing end to end coverage and resolution of issues.
- Chair debug forums and create KPIs to measure hardware health.
- Provide critical feedback in test content and tool development.
- Partner with cross functional teams to develop novel ways to validate specialized hardware.
- Drive technical requirements and ensure the solution is flexible and scalable across the full (HW/FW/SW) stack.
- Define system behavior and concept of operations for the platform to ensure compatibility with Microsoft Azure datacenter software, serviceability, telemetry, and customer expectations.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in designing, validating, and/or debugging system (compute, storage, networking, and/or accelerator) or silicon hardware.
- Understanding of how standard server interfaces, such as PCIe, SATA, and memory, work with their respective software stacks.
- Hands on experience with tools such as JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
- 15+ years of experience in server, storage, or networking design or system integration.
- Experience in programming and/or scripting languages.
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, and/or data center infrastructure) to identify risks, drive discussions, detail system tradeoffs, and assess impact.
- Knowledge of high-volume silicon (SoCs, GPUs, or FPGAs), compute, storage, and/or networking design, manufacturing, and deployment.
- Knowledge of operating systems (windows and linux) and kernels.
- Experience working in a hyperscale hardware development environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with bug management and tracking tools.
- Experience with hardware, firmware, management firmware, and/or software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system.
Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
