Job Overview 

Sequel Med Tech is seeking an experienced technical architect to spearhead the design, development, and implementation of technical infrastructure for our customer- and employer-facing programs. As the Principal IT Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery by overseeing the integration of various systems and technologies critical to the success of our digital products, beginning with our employer program and our customer and caregiver portal. The successful candidate will be a digital health utility player in touch with the technical details across our organization, not an ivory-tower architect disconnected from implementation. As Sequel’s first architect, you will partner with the Technology and Operations leadership team to define a vision and roadmap and then work (virtually) side-by-side with the product teams to execute that strategy in an agile, iterative manner. Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties 

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of the overall IT architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST etc.).

• Partner with Product Management and with subject matter experts in Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Marketing, Sales, Clinical, Cybersecurity, and more to understand their needs.

• Select, evaluate, and implement new technologies and solutions that support the company's growth and ensure a high level of security and performance. 

• Partner with the Principal Platform Engineer to design and oversee the implementation of a cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) to meet scalability and cost-efficiency needs. 

• Develop and maintain technical documentation for the IT architecture and ensure adherence to best practices. 

• Mentor engineering staff, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, 

• Promote a culture of psychological safety, transparency, shared ownership, and collaboration across product teams.

• Manage complex technical projects or functional areas. Conceptualize, design and document complex systems solutions. 

• Stay up to date on emerging technologies relevant to the healthcare industry and evaluate their potential for integration. 

• Manage and mitigate IT risks, ensuring data security, system availability, and disaster recovery protocols. 

• Work (virtually) side-by-side with product teams to translate the company and product vision into a roadmap that delivers value to our customers and partners. 

Minimum Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related field, or equivalent career experience. 

• 10+ years of experience in IT architecture design and implementation, with at least half of that in a medical device or healthcare IT role. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

• Fluency in agile development practices with a demonstrated ability to walk-the-walk honing practices through continuous improvement over fixed practices and procedures. 

• Demonstrate empathy in all you do. 

• Willingness to challenge assumptions over sticking to the status quo. 

• Demonstrated ability to model the core tenets of agile within a regulated industry, including: 

• Responding to change over following a long-term project plan, while still being able to navigate corporate funding and reporting models and the need to coordinate with other teams. 

• Valuing working software over comprehensive documentation, while still being able to work with Quality, Legal, and other functions to ensure the appropriate documentation is available. 

• Prioritizing individual interactions over processes and tools, while maintaining compliance with Quality Management System requirements. 

• Focusing on customer collaboration over contract negotiation, while providing Legal and Finance partners the appropriate compliance artifacts. 

• Understanding of the principles of DevSecOps and the need for Security and Quality by design over downstream remediation. 

• Experience collaborating with functional (Quality, Legal, Marketing, etc.) partners over navigating functional gatekeepers. 

• Bias towards active collaboration over working in silos and throwing over the wall. Comfort working in and fostering a balanced team culture that values expert decision makers with cross-functional input over decision by fiat or design by committee. 

• Strong understanding of IT security best practices, compliance regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST etc.), and data privacy. 

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences. 

• Ability and willingness to be hands-on-keyboard with engineering teams to help accelerate implementation.
