Job Description
The Windows Silicon & Systems Intergration team (WSSI ) is currently recruiting a Principal Power Architect with a proven track record of delivering high quality user experiences. As a member for this team, you will provide detailed requirements, drive innovation on capabilities and deliver unique customer experiences . You will seek to improve performance/power and battery life by working with Windows OS, 1st party applications, third party component and software vendors.
The Principal Power Architect will be responsible for understanding and defining advanced fine grained power states to optimize IP level power while also assigning power consumption and thermal budgets to the many SoC components. This role requires detail orientation and affinity to enable efficiencies in process and methodologies - from early interaction to our silicon, through guiding an engineering organization on user experiences to the final product release.Responsibilities
- Leading and delivering architectural enhancements for platform deep power state entry, creation and documentation of silicon and IP power management implementations, analysis and innovation of PM architecture, concepts and development of requirements, Silicon and System Architecture Specifications.
- Definition and system analysis of SOC IP features, Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS), CPU/GPU/device power state definition and entry/exit optimization, from steady state operation to Modern Standby.
- Applying advanced cooling technologies to meet the thermal challenges of increased power density and power/performance requirements
- Complete IP performance, latency, bandwidth, power, and thermal studies
- Collaborate with business, industrial design, user experience, hardware, software, test, and manufacturing teams to influence and define technology and product roadmaps while meeting schedule, quality, and cost commitments.
- Understand overall SoC architecture and contribute to decisions based on IP capabilities, functionality, and value
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.
- 7+ years of demonstrated experience in Architecture or Design Development of client subsystems.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in the development of power architecture in client subsystems.
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.
- 10+ years demonstrated experience in Power Architecture development or leadership.
- Expertise in OS and driver foundations, SW applications, FW and HW components and their interactions leading to high quality designs that maximize the user experience on performance/power.
- Expertise on CPU, GPU, device and platform power states including optimizing for fast sleep entry/exit.
- Expertise in Power budgeting between SoC IPs and resulting thermal maps.
- Experience in heat transfer and/or experience with thermal simulation software
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability to perform in a high paced product development environment.
- Capable of managing a great level of ambiguity and minimal direction to extract relevant goals while driving to completion.
- Willing to travel internationally up to 10%.
