Principal Software Engineer

Marqeta is the originator and market leader of Modern Card Issuing. In addition to our core offerings as issuer processor, we offer a number of innovative products that delight our customers. As a Fullstack engineer in the End Users Experience team, you will be leading two key projects - Widgets and IVR.

Our Widgets team serves up and processes a collection of embeddable apps that display and handle sensitive PCI data on behalf of our customers to their end users. This helps Marqeta customers to enable their cardholders to perform secure card activities without requiring PCI compliance on their own.

Our IVR team owns a product that consists of a phone number that card users can call to perform a number of card related activities. Our customers use this product without the need of building and supporting their own IVR service.

• Be hands-on with coding on a daily basis
• Architect, design and develop large, complex projects
• Conceptualize new features and services with engineers, product managers, customer success teams and designers
• Collaborate with a cross-functional teams on architecture, APIs and new microservices
• Learn new frameworks and technologies and use them to solve complex problems
• Guide and mentor junior and senior engineers
• Partner with Product Managers to scope and estimate new work
• Uplift those around you and make Marqeta better through your presence  

• 12+ years of experience as a Full stack engineer in Cloud based environments
• We use Java, Python, JavaScript & Ruby throughout the business but welcome experience in different programming languages
• Experience working with modern web and mobile frameworks such as React and React Native
• Deep understanding of container based apps and experience deploying and owning apps on EKS
• Experience and passion for mentoring and coaching other Engineers in Engineering best practices
• Strong experience in driving adoption of Operation Excellence in Engineering orgs
• Ability to Influence Manager and teammates with the development strategy
• Strong communication skills - including the ability to listen to the needs of others and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and concise manner, and present effectively in both oral and written presentations to all levels in the organization
• Team-oriented approach - can effectively lead a project or participate as an effective team member as well as work cross-functionally with other organizations
• Demonstrable strong customer focus and obsession in every aspect of the decision that is taken 

• Experience breaking complex monolithic apps into Microservices with target stack on Java
• Financial service or more specifically Payment domain experience
• IVR domain experience in any industry vertical
• Experience in relational and non-relational datastores
• Experience building scalable customer facing apps on AWS platform
• Exposure to Java backend frameworks such as Spring Boot and Kubernetes service on AWS (EKS)
