Principal UI Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Roadmap - working across Product and Engineering departments, identify a technical vision and plan for the UI that scales, is maintainable, allows for fast development of features and implements best practices
• Communication and Coordination across departments - work collaboratively with members of Engineering, Product Architects, UX, Infrastructure, Product Support, and Sales towards a common goal.
• Ownership of UI Layer - design, build and coach Engineering on robust, consistent, reusable UI Components and patterns
• Documentation - provide clear documentation, architectural docs, flow charts and so on around entities/tools/concepts in the UI layer
• Process - proactively look for ways to improve processes to maximize quality, minimize technical debt and maximize ability to release value for customers
• Development - complete POCs as needed, set foundational patterns, dive-in on challenging problems
• Evaluation of new tools - stay on top of modern tools and evaluate benefit/risk of adoption
• Technical Guidance/Review - serve as leader and mentor in setting best coding practices and conducting code reviews

Required Skills:

• 5+ years professional experience as a UI Engineer and 2+ years’ experience as a Principal UI Engineer or UI Architect
• Extensive experience with JavaScript, Typescript, React, JSON, CSS, HTML
• Strong experience designing and integrating with APIs, organizing/defining the data contract
  between endpoints/response and UI Components
• Deep understanding of planning and organizing Versioning, Branching, and Auditing
• Ability to understand and design at a System Design level and to document aspects relevant to the UI layer
• UX skills - an eye for visual design and usability

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of various AWS offerings including Fargate, EKS, EC2 and OpenSearch
• Knowledge of Rundeck, Terragrunt
• Knowledge with Jest (or similar UI Unit testing tools), User Testing and automated testing tools
• Experience with Webpack, yarn, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD

Education:

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
