Principal UX Engineer

We are a team of User Experience (UX) professionals spanning Product Design, UX Research, Content Design, and UX Engineering. Microsoft Security's product portfolio is vast, with experiences that span from the security professional to the consumer. We've recently set out to unify our experiences to a common design system comprised of shared Figma UI kits, guidance, and common React component libraries that are open-source, open-contribution, and consumable by all product teams. We're collaborating closely across disciplines, product teams, and organizations within Microsoft to extend Microsoft Fluent based on the unique needs of our users.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• 8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 14+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code

• OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science , Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 12+ years of experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science , Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
• OR equivalent experience.

• 6+ years experience shipping production-ready code as a result of a collaborative process.
• Experience with Figma and coding in React

UX Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:

To help achieve this goal, we're looking for a driven, detail-oriented Principal UX Engineer who can meticulously craft our collective vision through code while being an influential liaison between the UX and Engineering teams to up-level our quality across the organization-building consistent, intuitive, and accessible experiences leveraging modern aesthetics and the latest generative AI technology while continually improving based on telemetry and customer feedback. • Champions collaboration between Product Design and Engineering to fill gaps.
• Leads efforts to build out Figma UI components with code so they can be used by Engineers.
• Develops and shares best practices that emphasize accessibility, performance, and reusability.
• Leads the way in identifying needs and includes them in end-to-end design plan and process.
• Collaborates with product owners and development team members to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to product shipment for large and/or complex products.
• Presents to teams (e.g., UX and Engineering), leadership, and/or customers to receive feedback and strengthen partnerships for iterations.
• Ensures prototypes are in accordance with company's brand and guidelines, and leads the invention/improvement of guidelines when existing guidelines are unclear.
• Leads interactions with Engineering for successful design implementation, and leads design Quality Assurances (QAs) to ensure "pixel perfect" designs.
• Directs collaboration with Developers to iterate further on designs during implementation to ensure optimal designs.
• Drives negotiations with Engineering and pushes design agenda forward while finding compromises and alternatives.
• Leads the building and maintenance of tools, platforms, and systems, ensuring improvements to efficiencies and collaboration through the use of tools.
• Advises on how to build value into tools and platforms already available (e.g., Figma plugins, Storybook).
• Helps others use codebases and systems and drives consistency and alignment across multiple teams. Holds responsibility for large contributions to existing and new codebases, design systems, and themes; integrates ideas from across teams.
• Sets context for senior leadership stakeholders. Guides communication with Engineering and feature teams outside of core team through all stages of design and development.
• Cultivates communication workstreams across groups.
• Collaborates with leadership and team members, creates, and helps the team deliver product design results while also guiding the team's newer members. Connects dots between teams to enable collaboration, identifying opportunities to build on the work of others and leverage previous work.
• Tells a compelling, convincing product story to a variety of audiences in a way that inspires excitement and support of the product.
• Creates clarity and builds energy for stakeholders.
• Provides oversight and guidance to their team.
• Mentors team members in all areas of ownership.
