Your impact.As the Design Manager, we want you to lead a team that produces highly effective, intuitive, and elegant digital experiences. You should have the passion and ability to turn product needs into engaging and functional solutions, in tight collaboration with our product management and software engineering teams. Your user-centered design methods and artifacts will be integral to the success of our customers as well as our own operations teams.
Reporting directly into the Chief Product Officer, your primary focus will be driving high quality health outcomes for our members through our mobile experience. As a leader, you will develop Agile best practices for ensuring highly effective user research, discovery, and experience design. You will lead and manage the growth of a team of talented designers. You will also contribute and practice your craft on a limited basis supporting select projects.

You will spearhead the end-to-end design of the HealthJoy experience that takes people at their most vulnerable and not only delivers magic at scale, but does so while also replacing something deeply dysfunctional.
- Partner with product managers and engineers using engagement metrics and user feedback to iterate on effective member and customer experiences
- Partner cross-functionally with product and engineering leadership to advocate UX design perspective, lead design initiatives, as well as provide feedback on roadmap, in Agile project planning cycles, and product collaboration channels
- Lead, manage & mentor an empowered team of designers to maximize their project delivery, UX skill sets, and career development
- Set team goals, resolve competing priorities, and manage project completion–conducting recurring design reviews to drive best practices and collaboration
- Own and drive select design projects from discovery to delivery
- Design and execute user research and usability studies
- Guide and improve best practices for user journeys, wireframes, detailed UX flows, prototypes, UI mockups, sketches, visuals, decks, and explanations that promote user empathy and alignment with cross functional teams
- Continuously improve design & discovery processes, tools, and workflows to increase cross-team efficiency and collaboration within our Agile methodology
- Evangelize design concepts to a range of stakeholders and audiences within the tech team and across the company.
- Bachelor's or higher degree in graphic design, human-computer interaction, or equivalent practical experience in related domains.
- 8+ years of design experience, with demonstrated successful design projects in enterprise/SaaS software products
- 3+ years of experience building, growing & managing collaborative and highly effective design teams
- A strong portfolio of innovative, consumer-centric design work that demonstrates proficiency in interaction and visual design as well as design leadership; health care context is desirable
- Experience working collaboratively with users and cross-functional team members
- Communication skills to build stakeholder consensus throughout the design journey
- Demonstrated success designing solutions that account for business goals, user needs, and technical constraints
- Skills in conducting end-user research to discover user behaviors, needs, and motivations in order to design products and services that provide value
- Practical evidence-based approach to product design
- Wealth of knowledge around user-centered design principles, up to date trends, accessibility, and usability heuristics
- Proficiency with UX design and research tools, particularly Figma
- Solid product intuition and a strong passion for detailed interaction design
- Fast-paced, self-motivated and resilient to life at a startup
- Pixel-perfect eye for detail with keen layout and typography skills
- Online portfolio with app and web design samples
Job Level: 30
Base Compensation Range for Job Level: $145,000-155,000 Annually
The cash compensation above includes base salary only. Certain roles are eligible for additional cash incentives such as commission, annual bonus targets, overtime pay or other variable incentives.
HealthJoy maintains a comprehensive strategy to determine rewarding and competitive packages for individual compensation for new hires, internal promotions and internal job changes. This strategy is based on several factors unique to each individual, including: 1) the skills, experience and qualifications of the individual; 2) the responsibilities and demands of the role; 3) analysis of external market data; and 4) company budget and financial performance.
HealthJoy is a remote-first employer. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
At HealthJoy, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each role and individual.
