Job Description

Biotechnology is rewriting life as we know it, from the medicines we take, to the crops we grow, the materials we wear, and the household goods that we rely on every day. But moving at the new speed of science requires better technology.
Benchling’s mission is to unlock the power of biotechnology. The world’s most innovative biotech companies use Benchling’s R&D Cloud to power the development of breakthrough products and accelerate time to milestone and market.
Come help us bring modern software to modern science.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We're looking for Product Design interns to join our Summer 2023 intern class in San Francisco or Boston. As an intern, you’ll help ship creative solutions to sophisticated product problems, helping to drive the biotech revolution. From this program, you will be in a position to grow personally and professionally as a designer by working closely with your manager, mentors and an amazingly dedicated design team.

YOUR IMPACT
  • Influence product direction and define design projects by partnering with PM and engineering to engage in user research
  • Partner with our customers to reinvent how we can make them more productive and redefine how they work
  • Actively contribute to evolving our process, tools and systems to ensure we’re crafting excellent, consistent work
  • Address customer concerns by synthesizing behavioral information and envisioning things as they should be, not as they are
  • Conceptualize a broad spectrum of ideas and then narrow based on experimentation and customer research
  • Rapidly design and prototype multiple ideas for product features
  • Advance a strong point of view, backed by personal expertise, design rationale, customer data, and industry trends

ABOUT YOU

Must haves:

  • Are working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Graphical Design, or similar field of study
  • Have worked as a Product Design Intern or have similar experience
  • Have experience working with PM and engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
  • A strong portfolio of relevant design work that conveys an ability to ship successful products people love
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to explain the reasoning behind complex decisions
  • Steadfast focus on the customer

Nice to haves:

  • A passion for learning about life sciences
