Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built-facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans.

We are seeking a Program Coordinator for the Community Engagement & Partnerships department to plan and coordinate programs and activities at Powerhouse Arts that respond to the expressed needs of the community housed in and around the organization’s facilities at 322 Third Avenue in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of administrative and program management tasks in support of the ongoing development of Powerhouse’s community-centered programming. This role will report to the Community Engagement & Partnerships Director, and work closely with Powerhouse staff, partners, consultants, teaching artists, and community members. 

Responsibilities: 

Public Engagement

  • Coordinate and implement community outreach for public programs 
  • Schedule and lead tours of the facility, including our fabrication spaces
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key community stakeholders
  • Increase Powerhouse’s visibility and accessibility, serving as an ambassador when discussing Powerhouse’s strategic direction and priorities 

Teaching & Learning

  • Liaise between Powerhouse Arts staff and community partners
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement & Partnerships Director to structure workshops as engaging, hands-on experiences that utilize asset-based community development practices 
  • Review curriculum and prepare materials needed for various art-based workshops 
  • Lead workshops for community members that inform and promote the organization’s mission

Work-Based Learning

  • Attend internship trainings in partnership with CUNY Cultural Core
  • Support planning and coordination of internship program and its activities
  • Help build positive rapport with interns and supervisors 
  • Lead check-in meetings to collect feedback and improve the program

Other Responsibilities:

  • Research and evaluate programs
  • Maintain budget and track expenditures
  • Prepare paperwork and order program materials
  • Keep updated records and create reports or proposals
  • Identify opportunities for growth and program development

  • Flexible, creative, organized, thorough, and resourceful
  • Receptive to ongoing, constructive feedback 
  • Fluent in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Mac, and Dropbox platforms
  • Comfortable using and/or learning communication and project management tools such as Asana, RingCentral, and Slack
  • Willingness and ability to travel to partnership sites, 2-3 days per week as partnerships grow 
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional nights and weekends, dependent on schedule of community programs 

Compensation + Benefits: Salary range is $57,000-$72,000 and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
