Quality Engineer

The Analytics Team is responsible for building and maintaining analytics tools and workflows to support the PrizePicks business across all departments — at the core of these operations is data. As a Quality Engineer leading the team in designing, executing, and optimizing testing strategies for complex data pipelines, you will enable the PrizePicks business to make smarter, better, and faster data-driven decisions.

What you’ll do:

• Conduct end-to-end testing of data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, validation, and integration with downstream systems.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including data engineers and data scientists to understand pipeline requirements and translate them into effective test scenarios for complex pipelines and data processing systems.
• Lead the DE team on performance testing to identify bottlenecks and areas for optimization of models and pipeline processes toward enhanced speed and efficiency.
• Identify and document defects, track their resolution progress, and retest fixes to ensure the successful resolution of issues. 
• Exhibit proficiency in data observability through implementing advanced monitoring solutions for pipeline tracking, anomaly detection, data accuracy, and concurrently enhanced data freshness via real-time processing pipelines to ensure up-to-date information availability for improved analytical insights.
• Actively participate in design & code reviews and provide valuable feedback to ensure code quality and adherence to testing best practices.
• Lead effort to establish and manage continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) for pipeline & automated testing, and contribute to faster and more reliable deployment processes.
• Conduct root cause analysis for defects and data quality incidents, working closely with development teams to implement preventive measures and ensure long-term data integrity. 
• Contribute to the development of data quality standards and best practices, enhancing the overall quality of data across the organization

What you have:

• Advanced working SQL knowledge and building/testing dbt pipelines in production and ability to work across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
• Familiarity with Agile QA best practices and improvement recommendations.
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. 
• Experience using the following software/tools:
  • Data Ingestion tools: Hevo, Fivetran, Stitch, etc.
  • Relational SQL databases/warehouses: Postgres, BigQuery.
  • Object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python.
  • Data modeling tools: dbt Cloud and Core.
  • Cloud platform services in GCP and analogous systems: BigQuery, BigTable, Cloud Storage, Cloud Compute Engine, Looker, DataStudio, CloudSQL.
  • Dashboarding platforms: Tableau, Looker, etc
  • Code version control: Git
  • Code testing libraries: PyTest, PyUnit, Nose2, etc.
  • Preferred experience with data observability/freshness/lineage tools: Elementary
  • Preferred experience with big data tools: Dataproc, Hadoop, Spark,, etc.
  • Preferred experience with data pipeline and workflow tools: Prefect, Airflow, Cloud Composer, Azkaban, Luigi, etc.

Where you’ll live:

• Anywhere in the US, but Atlanta is preferred
