Radar Systems Engineer

The Multi-function RF Systems (MRFS) Group within the Systems Development Division designs, develops, and delivers low-cost, highly capable Multi-function RF systems to address the warfighter needs (Land, Sea, Air, and Space). The Multifunction RF Systems Group focuses on technology development for advanced and multi-function sensor systems, particularly in the areas of radar, cyber/electronic warfare, and threat emulators. Within this role, we perform work at full system prototypes, experiment campaigns and technology component development.

The MRFS Group is seeking a Radar Systems engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of multi-function Radar systems. You will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams spread across multiple STR campuses, groups, divisions, and with industry partners to understand customer objectives and develop innovative solutions to complex and challenging national security problems. Your areas of specific focus will include exploration and demonstration of radar, communications, and EW/RF convergence.

As a Radar Systems Engineer you will use engineering and math skills to define the architecture of the system, the performance and functional requirements of the system, the subsystem design and requirements, and the integration of the components into the overall system. In addition, systems Engineers use MATLAB regularly to conduct data analyses, modeling, and simulation. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities Include:

• Working in a team to develop advanced radar systems and architectures
• Researching new RF sensing and processing concepts
• Developing RF hardware models (system level, component level)
• Working with measured RF sensor data to develop system models and conduct performance analyses for the purposes of design trades
• Become part of a team to integrate and test Radar Systems in both test facilities and in the field

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
• BS degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics or related technical discipline
• Relevant experience designing, integrating, and testing RF sensor, radar and/or communication systems
• Familiarity with RF component technology and performance characteristics
• Strong scientific programming skills including Matlab, Simulink and/or C/C++
• Strong communication skills and the ability to describe complex technical concepts to fellow researchers as well as to non-technical people

Desired Qualifications:

• Active Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret (TS) level
• MS degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics or related technical discipline
• Relevant work or project experience in algorithm design, requirements development, software/hardware integration and configuration management
• Experience modeling physics-based phenomenology (sensors, environments, targets, behaviors)
• Experience leading small teams, keeping requirements and schedule in mind
• Experience mentoring more junior level engineers
• Strong presentation skills, at the technical, programmatic, and executive level
