The Role in a Nutshell
We need a front-end, React-focused web developer to help elevate the public face of WP Engine. This developer will work with designers, other developers, and partners across our Marketing department to build the high-traffic, high-performance, high-visibility sites we are responsible for. Web Developers in WP Engine's Marketing department work alongside our internal partners to build our company's public presence. We also support our organization internally by providing our expertise and knowledge to other parts of the business. We are working to improve our sites and technology because we believe "Design Matters" and that we should be "Built for Growth".
We are about to make major updates to our site architecture. Our website is going to be rebuilt on the WP Engine Atlas (headless WordPress) platform. To succeed, we need an expert front-end React developer who is willing to teach what they know. Bonus points for strengths in some of the following: WordPress, testing, automation, CI/CD, continuous improvement, and building to enable other teams.
The day to day
Initially, you'll be focused on aspects of moving our site to Atlas. That said, we work in a fast-paced environment with different projects coming from internal partners, so your days will vary. Most days, you'll do one or more of these things:

• Lead front-end development for WP Engine's marketing websites, including the front-end portion of our site rebuild project.
• Instruct the rest of the development team in modern, effective React and other front-end practices.
• Work with your team to ensure our architecture, plug-ins, and internal developer experience are well-crafted. In doing so, you will help evolve all aspects of what we do to make our development cycle faster, more reliable, and more sustainable.
• Mentor and collaborate with other developers while leading vital projects
• Collaborate with our Marketing team to understand and refine our next project
• Embrace the challenges that come with our fast-paced environment and high visibility

Your skills and expertise
Minimum qualifications:

• Demonstrated expertise in React, JavaScript, and TypeScript, including automated testing
• Proven experience in modern front-end web development
• Ability to approach obstacles as challenges to be overcome
• Able to communicate effectively with others, teach others, learn from others, and build working relationships with colleagues and collaborators

Preferred Skills:

• WordPress development experience, especially Gutenberg block development or headless
• Build and automation tools, including Composer, Yarn, Webpack, Docker, CI/CD tools, shell scripting
• Marketing and analytics experience
