Become a critical member of the National Weather Service (NWS) in its mission to protect American lives and safeguard the nation's economy. As a member of the NCEP Central Operations (NCO) Operations team, you will directly support the country's most important weather systems. From the deployment and operational support of weather models support systems to worldwide public data dissemination systems that sustain hundreds of terabytes of web traffic everyday, your role at the NWS will be in support of the world's most indispensable weather forecasting and hazard mitigation systems. GuideHouse Digital is looking to hire a Sr Linux Systems Administratorto be an integral part of the day-to-day operations of a large data center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). This position supports 24x7 mission-critical systems hosted on physical and virtual servers in an active clustering environment located in College Park, MD and Boulder, CO.

The ideal candidate will have worked in large enterprise/multi-site type environments, be in line with industry best practices, think outside the box, be an amazing problem solver, and be able to make recommendations to improve overall system performance.

If you are Red Hat aficionado, have scripting, automation skills and have some specialized experience (Ansible, Automation, Database(s), Web Services, etc.) to support the daily NOAA Weather Mission of delivering the weather information to the United States and its territories/interests, this is the position for you!

What You Will Do:

• General Red Hat Linux System Administration, upgrades, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring maximum availability.
• Maintain, monitor, and support complex, mission-critical software systems in an operational 24x7 Enterprise environment.
• Support System Integration test plans and report results.
• Write system Ansible playbooks and scripts (Bash, Python, Perl) for daily administration, monitoring and application deployment. Then document and share your work with others.
• Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches to resolve software and hardware related problems.
• Perform system backups and recovery.
• Maintains system and application data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
• Work incidents tickets of all severities, including mission critical system support.
• Monitors system health and configurations in order to ensure system health and functionality as well as remediate problems/issues in a timely manner.

What You Will Need:

• Bachelor's Degree with at least 8-10 years of experience. In lieu of a degree, additional 4 years of demonstrated experience is required in a related field.(i.e-total of 12-14 years of related experience will be needed without degree)
• 8+ full-time years of progressive operations experience into an enterprise setting, including demonstrated O&M experience (advanced troubleshooting, patching, hardening, etc.).
• 6+ full-time years of progressive Enterprise Linux expertise leading to RHEL8+ required with demonstrated experience using tools like Satellite or Ansible.
• Experience of Ansible playbook and shell script writing.
• Ability to perform rotational on-call support in a 24x7x365 operational environment.
• Automation skills using scripting or tools like Ansible.
• Experience with configuration management and automation tools in a data center environment.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills to deal with multiple contractors and government organizations.
• U.S Citizen or Permanent resident is required for this position
• Candidate must successfully pass a Federal Background National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Investigation.

What Would Be Nice to Have:

• Perl and/or Python scripting expertise
• PostgreSQL and/or MySQL experience
• Punjab experience
• Apache/Tomcat experience

The annual salary range for this position is $117,200.00-$175,800.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
