What You Will Contribute to Altos

The purpose of this hands-on role is to provide technical histology support for multidisciplinary teams at the Altos Bay Area Institute of Science and manage the day-to-day activities of a histology laboratory. The incumbent in this role will:

  • Be highly involved with building the histology infrastructure and setting up histology operations.
  • Work closely with colleagues to plan the further expansion of the histology infrastructure.
  • Be responsible for the day to day running of histology operations, including coordination with research teams, maintenance of equipment, and ordering of consumables, reagents, and supplies.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to design and implement histology support programs that address key scientific needs.
  • Lead efforts to implement and maintain inventory and sample tracking software systems.
  • Lead efforts to coordinate outsourced histology services provided by contract research organizations and other external partners.
  • Support research activities with the supervision of a scientist.
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment, prepare materials, perform experimental procedures, record and consolidate research data, and execute planned research activities using observation, measurement, and analytical techniques.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of combined relevant education and experience, and will possess the following qualifications.

  • BS in Biomedical Science or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience in a biological / medical / pharmaceutical research environment.
  • Experience in the preparation of human and/or laboratory animal tissues.
  • Experience with automation for sample tracking.
  • Experience with a wide variety of histology staining paradigms.
  • Experience with advising on, planning, and implementing histological experiments.
  • Experience of immunohistochemistry techniques and other methods of tissue-based expression analysis.
  • Experience with brightfield and fluorescence imaging, as well as automated slide scanning.
  • High level of computer literacy to maintain electronic records.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a solution-driven mindset.
  • Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work with diverse and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multitask and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities.

Salary range: 132,000 - 168,000
