Job Description

The role: 

As a member of our growing Finance team, the Revenue Manager will have the opportunity to make a real and immediate impact by driving process improvements, communicating OTC requirements cross functionally, implementing internal control procedures and streamlining the revenue accounting activities to improve the close process.Reporting to the Director of Revenue, you will partner closely with Customer Operations, Legal, Sales, Customer Success, Content Services, and Professional Development teams to drive bookings and revenue goals through strategic decision making while ensuring compliance with internal policies and U.S. GAAP. You will also partner with Business Technology and Optimization teams to drive AR and revenue automation and improve management reporting. Lastly, you will partner with the Customer Org, Billing Team and FP&A to improve forecasting accuracy.

  • You will:
    • Own revenue, deferred revenue, Accounts Receivable, unbilled receivables, AR allowance and bad debt accounting and close processes
    • Continue to automate order to cash processes and remediate internal controls gaps
    • Partner with the business (leads, legal, support team) to design scalable order to cash processes and reduce risk
    • Review contracts and prepare contract review checklists to verify compliance with US GAAP (ASC 606)
    • Ensure accounting & reporting in accordance with policies and US GAAP
    • Research GAAP technical guidance and prepare technical memo documentation
    • Prepare / review SSP analysis, and work with our external auditors to support PCAOB level audits
    • Partner with the FP&A team to provide ad-hoc reports and analysis to support revenue, deferred revenue, unbilled receivable and bad debt forecastingMaintain and enforce deal desk policies
    • You will have a direct impact on scaling Newsela’s ability to bring engaging, culturally responsive learning content to K-12 classrooms nationwide. 

Why you’re a great fit: 

  • You have a minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting
  • You have  5+ years of experience in ASC 606 and experience working in a SaaS environment
  • You are able to leverage your business partnership and analytical skills to effectively achieve compliance with US GAAP.
  • You have an active CPA license 
  • You have demonstrated success in people leadership with a strong emphasis on coaching and developing direct reports
