The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. We perform work on full system prototypes, experiment campaigns and technology component development. Particular development roles within the Sensors Division include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.
The Advanced Systems Development (ASD) Group within the Sensors Division supports the DoD and IC in the conduct of applied research centered on developing wide-area long-range sensing of remote contested areas. ASD supports a broad portfolio of undersea technologies as well as applications from overhead, with a focus on DARPA applications. The team supports development of new system concepts, implementation of advanced algorithms and processing, creation of novel new sensing spanning acoustic, RF, and optical domains, ocean engineering, vector sensor array development, acoustic materials research, and fielding of prototype hardware to demonstrate compelling new applications with important impact.
The ASD Group is seeking Signal Processing Researchers to develop and demonstrate novel signal processing, communications, and machine learning algorithms for advanced sensor and electronic warfare applications. These algorithms will be integrated and demonstrated on prototype systems to enable rapid transition to support our customer's needs.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated technical expertise in both the theory and practice in some of the following: adaptive signal processing, channel equalization, RF communications, deep learning, algorithm development, test & evaluation, model & simulation, and systems engineering. Initial tasking benefits from experience in novel HF radar processing and complex propagation.
The role of a successful candidate will be tailored to fit within the existing team and leverage their strengths while enabling them to grow their career in both technical and leadership aspects.
This position requires skills working as part of multi-disciplinary team designing, analyzing, and demonstrating advanced algorithms for complex systems.
Responsibilities:

• Develop signal processing, communications, and AI/ML algorithms for novel sensors and complex RF environments
• Support modeling and simulation activities of advanced RF systems
• Design, implement, and test algorithms in software
• Characterization of system performance and evaluation of advanced processing techniques

Requirements

• US Citizenship with active Security Clearance, and eligible to support special access programs
• Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python

Education:

• PhD, MS, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline
