Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, GS-0018 position, at the GS-11 level you must have:

A. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing inspections of conventional work operations and activities where equipment, working conditions, and materials are potentially hazardous and recording apparent violations; recommending possible courses of action to control or eliminate hazards detected; providing instruction to employees covering standard safety and occupational health subjects; OR

B. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., in a safety or occupational health field (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; OR

C. a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

In order to qualify for a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, GS-0018 position, at the GS-12 level

You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized safety and occupational health training courses to employees; scheduling surveys of facilities to identify and evaluate the safety and occupational health risk potential; investigating accidents including analyzing precipitating factors and accident cause data and developing specific methods for prevention; participating in the development of new procedures to identify and control hazardous situations in the workplace.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
