Job description
We’re hiring an Outside Sales Representative to drive new business for our commercial maintenance and small renovation work. This is a relationship-first role: you’ll build trust with property and facilities decision-makers, uncover needs, and turn opportunities into steady, repeat work.
This is not a desk job. You’ll be in the field, on the phone, and in front of people—consistently.
Who You’ll Sell To
- Apartment buildings / property managers
- Retail chains / franchise operators
- Offices / corporate facilities
- Clinics / medical/dental
- Light industrial and mixed-use
What You’ll Be Selling
Ongoing and project-based work such as:
- Building maintenance and handyman services
- Unit turns and punch lists
- Small repairs and upgrades (drywall/paint, doors/hardware, flooring, fixtures, minor tenant improvements)
- Small commercial renovations and refreshes
What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
- A reliable pipeline of active opportunities (service + projects)
- A book of repeat accounts (monthly/quarterly work)
- Clean handoff to operations with clear scope, expectations, and timelines
- Accurate forecasting and consistent CRM habits
Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Prospect daily via calls, drop-ins, email, and LinkedIn
- Build and manage a target list of commercial buildings and decision-makers
- Book discovery meetings and site walks
Opportunity Management
- Qualify opportunities (decision maker, urgency, scope, budget)
- Gather job details (photos, measurements when needed, access constraints, schedules)
- Work with estimating/ops to produce quotes that win and can be delivered cleanly
- Follow up quickly and consistently to move deals forward
Account Growth
- Turn one-off jobs into repeat relationships
- Build referrals within accounts (multiple sites, departments, locations)
- Re-activate dormant accounts and maintain long-term relationships
Sales Operations
- Keep CRM updated (next steps, notes, stage, forecast)
- Participate in weekly pipeline, quote, and revenue reviews
Weekly Scorecard (KPIs)
- Outbound touches: 150–250/week (calls + emails + drop-ins)
- Meetings booked: 5–10/week
- Site walks / estimate requests: 3–8/week
- Quotes sent: 5–12/week
- Close rate: 25–40% (varies by opportunity type)
- New accounts activated: 4–6/month
- Repeat rate: % of accounts ordering again within 90 days
You’re a Fit If You…
- Thrive on daily prospecting and building relationships from scratch
- Are comfortable hearing “no” and coming back tomorrow
- Are organized, professional, and relentless about follow-up
- Can learn and speak the language of buildings, maintenance, and renos
- Enjoy being out in the community meeting decision-makers in person
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout HRM (and occasional day trips)
Assets (Nice-to-Have)
- 2+ years in outside B2B sales (or proven equivalent results)
- Experience selling in: commercial maintenance, construction, restoration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or similar
- Background as a building superintendent, facilities manager, property manager, or related role
- Existing network in HRM’s commercial property world
Compensation & Perks
- Base + bonus (details shared in interview)

- Clear targets, strong operational support, and room to grow
Not a Fit If…
- You need warm inbound leads to be successful
- You don’t want a role that includes daily outbound prospecting
- You prefer to stay behind a desk instead of visiting sites and building relationships
