The Opportunity

This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostic Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Scientist Operations, you will execute and conduct, design changes for current products and technical activities associated with product support. May facilitate, develop, or recommend improvements and/or new procedures related to products or processes. Plans and presents data within team, with supervision.

What You'll Work On

  • Independently provide technical support of Third Party Manufacturer (TPM) including managing change control, technical oversight and project support.
  • Recommends options for other experiments. Providing insights on techniques and procedures and solicits feedback from more advanced team members.
  • Works on problems of moderate and diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Proposes potential solutions to problems.
  • Possible CFT member providing input to project planning and execution. May plan and work on projects of smaller complexity under limited supervision.
  • Develops plan and presents data within team in conjunction with oversight.
  • Participates in routine maintenance and lab safety.
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation or experiments; recognizes and assists with the resolution of basic technical problems. With minimal guidance, can write verification and validation protocols/reports and order materials needed to complete procedures. Documents development work, writing technical reports and cost estimates.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Proactively identify opportunities for significant operational; process; or product improvements.
  • Travel: potential to travel up to once per year (e.g., Europe)
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Product and Process Improvement - Independently manage complex long duration projects; product improvements; and investigations. Recognizes opportunities and proposes novel ideas for significant operational, process or product improvements. Proactively identify opportunities for significant operational, process or product improvements. Perform or support test and process method modifications; considering CQAs; critical process parameters and analytical performance characteristics. Identify technical alternatives and make risk-based decisions within the area. Use technical data that interacts with multiple areas and processes. Provides diverse; independent technical data and insight to support risk management evaluation and assessment.
  • Design Control & Risk Management - Effectively balances compliance risk and business risk to create and review risk management files.
  • Technical Support - Assist in resolution of multiple complex technical and quality issues across Abbott Sites; TPMs and or functions (instrument; reagents; software and commodities). Anticipate; recognize and resolve technical issues.
  • Sharing Knowledge - Presents technical information to internal and external groups. Shares scientific information and expertise with customers and regulatory agencies. Experience mentoring and teaching others to facilitate timely resolution of product and process technical issues.
  • Strategic and Results Orientation - Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through actionable recommendations and accomplishments. Translates top-level goals to specific goals and aligns activities with respective strategic business priorities.
  • Receives infrequent direction; and provides work directions for other technical personnel.
  • Identifies; understands and resolves technical problems and operational issues.
  • Anticipates and avoids re occurrences.
  • Utilizes appropriate experimental, statistical and project management tools.
  • Applies specialized knowledge of product or process design; standardization; performance anchors and modes of control to create and review risk management files.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge and understanding of product or process design.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics; with minimum of 2-3 years experience.
  • M.S. with 0-2 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.
  • Awareness of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
  • Basic computer skills - able to learn new computer programs.
