Scientist/ Senior Scientist, Immunology, Discovery
Job Description
Us
Seed Health is a microbiome science company pioneering innovations in probiotics and living medicines to impact human and planetary health. Our scientific board comprises leading scientists, researchers, and clinicians across the fields of microbiology, immunology, bioinformatics, dermatology, oral health, vaginal health, gastroenterology, mental health, pediatrics, and nutrition.Â
Consumer innovations are commercialized under Seed® with a mission to bring much-needed precision, efficacy, education and perspective-shifting science communication to the global category of probiotics. Our efforts to set a new standard in probiotics, microbial innovation and translational communication have earned various accolades, including Fast Company's World Changing Ideas in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, and TIME's Best Inventions 2018.
We focus on categories where microbial innovations and microbiome-related products will disrupt and capture global market share in the coming years (e.g. oral care, skin care, infant health, etc.). We have built a strong foundation with breakthrough research and strong intellectual property, and believe there is a substantial opportunity to emerge as an innovative product line, backed by the most rigorous science.
You
You are an experienced scientist who understands the tremendous potential of how to modify human microbiomes to improve health. You have a deep knowledge in some aspect of immunology relevant to human-microbe interaction in one or more aspects of human biology, and a hunger to learn more.Â
You are passionate about cutting-edge science and are skilled at taking a high level scientific goal and figuring out, through deep thinking and engagement with internal and external experts, how to identify critically important mechanisms and execute the right data and wet lab experiments to validate (and reject) hypotheses. Importantly, you have detailed hands-on expertise in data or experimentation that enables you to select the most promising and productive areas for exploration. We’d love to see some experience in microbiome science along with your immunology expertise, but it’s not required.Â
You are experienced in interacting with external collaborators, including academics and CROs, to identify the best path to advance research quickly. Ideally, you have experience working as part of a cross-functional scientific team to advance high-risk, high-reward science and are comfortable with the languages of microbiome and data as well as immunology. You are a strong communicator, able to pivot quickly towards new directions, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
- PhD, ideally 2+ years postdoctoral or industry experience in host/microbe interaction in any body system, and/or immunologyÂ
- Experience originating and managing research projects, either in academia or industryÂ
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the subject matter expert in immunology and host-microbe interactions across Discovery programs in multiple subject areasÂ
- Be the point person for figuring out how to execute immunological and host-microbiome assays for our Discovery and clinical programs with academic collaborators and CROs
- Identify/design appropriate biomarker assays for our clinical trials, including identification & vetting of CROs, and lead execution of relevant endpointsÂ
- Participate in manuscript drafting and publicationÂ
