Engadget is hiring its first-ever security reporter! For this newly created position, we're looking for an enterprising journalist who can serve as our resident cybersecurity expert, writing a mix of spot news, original reporting, explainers, reviews and well-researched buying guides. In this role, you'll be covering everything from ransomware attacks to data breaches to security tools. We recognize that cybersecurity can be a dense, highly technical topic, and so we're looking for someone who understands the space well enough to distill it into digestible terms for a broad audience. When you're not making sense of the news of the day, we will also ask you to produce and maintain buying guides and "best of" lists for security software such as VPNs and password managers.
Responsibilities:

• Serve as Engadget's resident security expert, writing a mix of spot news, original reporting, explainers and buying guides for services such as VPNs and password managers. Writing reviews and "best of" lists will require you to test these products first-hand to ensure our recommendations are as detailed and authoritative as possible.
• Regularly pitch fresh story, review and buying guide ideas (and also be prepared to accept some assignments from your editors).
• Appear as needed in companion videos for your stories. These videos will run on Engadget, YouTube and various social media channels.
• You may be asked on occasion to join The Engadget Podcast to promote your latest articles and guides.

Requirements:

• A familiarity with and sincere interest in consumer technology.
• Experience covering consumer technology, science or a similar field. We strongly prefer someone with a demonstrated understanding of the cybersecurity space.
• Proven ability to produce clean, well-researched copy, and to sometimes juggle multiple deadlines.
• Comfortable appearing on camera from time to time (or at least eager to get better at it).
• Works well with others, and is receptive to feedback.

The compensation for this position ranges from $77,250.00 - $151,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives. Yahoo has a high degree of flexibility around employee location and hybrid working. In fact, our flexible-hybrid approach to work is one of the things our employees rave about.
