As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing network infrastructure services for Azure, Bing, AI, and other Microsoft cloud services. In Azure Networking, we are at the very front of Cloud Computing by running one of the largest data center network infrastructures in the world. Responsibilities:

  • Assist team members on creation of next generation data center network and regional network design.
  • Create design architecture document and metadata.
  • Execute proof of concept and pilot.
  • Create migration strategy to ensure smooth transition from current design to next generation design.
  • Participate in "DevOps on call rotation" to troubleshoot and resolve production issues which serves a feedback loop to improve design.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 4+ years experience operating large scale networks with any of the following networking technologies: network device hardware architecture, optical technologies, or related.
  • 4+ years of experience with TCP/IP and different routing protocols such as: BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS, Segment Routing, or related.
  • Ability to handle periodic live service on-call responsibilities.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity/hands on experience with any network device operating systems (Sonic, Arista, Cisco, Juniper)
  • Experience on large data mining and analysis
  • Experience on designing protocols and creating industry standards
  • Experience on network hardware designs
  • Hold professional networking certification (example CCIE, CCDE, CCAr, JNCIE, etc)
  • Understanding of information theory, queueing theory and/or congestion control.

Cloud Network Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
