The Opportunity
We are seeking a creative and strategic privacy and product counsel. Working remotely, you will work cross-functionally to support product, business, and ecosystem needs. You’ll get to do a little bit of everything: general legal advice for internal product, engineering, and marketing teams, negotiating agreements, consulting on privacy and data issues across the company, guiding Mozilla’s privacy policies, and working with the Public Policy team on privacy developments globally.
Responsibilities:
- Drive stakeholder management and consensus across cross-functional Mozilla teams on issues related to privacy and security, including data practices, transparency and consumer protection.
- Evaluate and internally report on the impact of U.S., European, and international legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry guidelines involving privacy and drive compliance strategies.
- Oversee implementation of risk-based guidance and operational compliance in partnership with internal teams, including Product, Engineering, People, Business Development and Marketing teams.
- Assisting with continuing the development and maintenance of the data stewards program.Â
- Coordinate with Legal, Competition, Public Policy and Communications colleagues on multidisciplinary issues.
- Draft, revise, and maintain consumer and developer legal terms, privacy policies, and privacy trainings.
- Work with commercial legal teams to negotiate agreements with advertisers and other third parties.
- Manage transparency reporting and support law enforcement requests, and amicus opportunities.
- Provide privacy advice in M&A transactions and post-close integration activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. degree and membership in a state bar with good standing (or foreign equivalent).
- 6+ years of relevant legal experience.Â
- Substantial experience advising on global privacy issues across multiple jurisdictions, including those related to data privacy and security.
- Experience working with product teams, particularly with respect to business and data interfaces and the ability to guide legal review of marketing plans and product documentation.
- Experience working with regulators and responding to regulatory inquiries.
- Experience driving impact, outcomes and engagement using limited resources to get results.
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and building consensus across cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to distill nuanced concepts into concise messages, write and edit for a variety of audiences, and deliver polished presentations.
- Commitment to improving organizational diversity, equity and inclusion.
Bonus points for
- Experience with the online advertising industry, including from the perspective of social media or other internet companies, ad agencies, advertisers or publishers.
- High fluency in internet technologies and software development.
- Experience understanding and articulating the impact of technology on individuals and communities worldwide and driving effective solutions.
- CIPP or related certifications
