Project OverviewΒThe Office for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics (DASD(Log)) is responsible for defining and implementing policies and programs that support effective integration of contracted capabilities into operations. To define these new policy areas and make them implementable by the warfighter, we must develop policy and guidance as well as connect with operational force leaders and planners to ensure they have the tools to execute. The Defense Management Analyst will support a team of government and contractor SMEs by helping define paths to institutionalize policies and other capabilities, coaching junior staff members to prepare presentations, memos, congressional reports, and other deliverables, and support coordination of working groups to support these goals.Β
Project RoleΒ ΒResponsible for:Β
- Providing thought leadership on how to take ideas for policy development and implementation and make them authoritative or actionable based on their understanding of OSD administrative processesΒ
- Ensure execution of complex tasks by coordinating and tasking junior staffΒ
- Advising staff on appropriate structure for various deliverables to convey the right information and recommendations to various audiences, including operationally focused stakeholders and OSD stakeholders, and ranging from action officers to very senior leadersΒ
- Reviewing work produced by junior staff and ensuring sufficient qualityΒ
- Coaching junior staff to improve their understanding of departmental processes and help them evolve as professionals
- Being a focal point for GS-15/NH-04 level client to communicate status of tasks and collaborate on execution of more complex tasks
- Developing excellent working relationships with ODASD(Log) client(s) as well as stakeholders throughout OSD, the CCMDs, and Agencies to achieve cross-functional policy implementation

Candidate should have experience:Β

- Leads entire teams to plan task timelines and directs the allocation of staff support to complete tasks.
- Mentors and supports the development of team members.
- Takes advantage of learning opportunities beyond client-based role or roles and connects them to existing knowledge.
- Shares knowledge with internal and external peers through writing and speaking 4-6 times per year.
- Builds organizational capability by building reusable process assets, templates, and tools that improve the consistency of our services.
- Supports federal business development pursuits by actively researching customer needs, recognizing opportunities and assessing the competitive environment to determine optimal approach and solutions.

- Β This position requires working in office (in Virginia or Washington D.C.) 2-4 times a week, with 10-20% annual travel anticipated.Β
- Bachelor's degreeΒ
- 87-10 years of experience as a staff officer or action officer in the Department of Defense or a similarly complex federal agencyΒ
- Understanding of administrative processes for reviewing, coordinating, and staffing packages in OSD or its equivalent in a complex federal agency; for example β staffing policy packages, congressional reports, sign-off of GAO reports, decision memorandums, or capability statementsΒ
- Experience in managing teams to execute a senior leaderβs visionΒ
- Experience and interest in establishing customer-service oriented support as a team leader
- Curious, problem solving, and open-minded approach to work
- Thrive in a continuous Build-Measure-Learn cycle
- Engage with technology -- with comfort and ease (Power Point, Word, Excel, Teams, Monday, Slack, Mural, etc.)Β
- Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
- Resides in the DMV area (Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia)Β
- Active DoD Secret or higher security clearanceΒ Β
- Knowledge of Department of Defense management and staffing processesΒ
- Experience working as a staff member or action officer in OSDΒ
