We are looking for an empathetic engineer who is familiar with some ( not all ) of our stack and tools, has a willingness and aptitude to grow into the role, is comfortable working remotely, and is excited by the idea of contributing to our mission to create simple, yet powerful, data foundations from which our DO Engineering community can build.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager of the Accelerate group, you will act as the Team Lead of the Fleet Data team. You will help us define the future of our data architecture, search, history, and a unified interface.
Our Stack: Bootstrap, Chef, Git, Go , GraphQL, gRPC, Linux, MySQL , Python
Our Tools: Docker, Elasticsearch , Github Actions, GSuite, Jira, Prometheus, Slack
Our Team: The Accelerate group is the arm of Infrastructure Engineering aimed at boosting productivity by enabling our engineers to rapidly and reliably deliver software and configuration running on our infrastructure while improving customer experience. The Infrastructure Engineering group, supported by the Director of Infrastructure Engineering, is made up of nearly sixty engineers located across the US, Canada, and Europe. The Accelerate group accounts for approximately 20% of the Infrastructure Engineering group. Within Accelerate, there are growth opportunities along several tracks (i.e. Tech Leader, Subject Matter Expert (SME), and Engineering Manager).
What You'll Be Doing:
- As an engineer, you will help us solve problems, e.g.
- What does the future of our data architecture look like?
- How can we improve the user experience and speed of our search?
- How do we implement history in a way that meets our stakeholder's needs?
- What does a unified interface look like for our data systems that will delight our users?
- How do we improve asset lifecycle management operations?
- As a team lead, you will work with your manager to:
- Grow a happy, high-functioning, high-performing team
- Coach and mentor mid-level and junior engineers
- Drive release frequency
- Delight our stakeholders and business leaders
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
- Strong understanding of Linux, systems, infrastructure
- Technical leadership experience
- Ideally, some experience working with data center operations
- Significant experience developing applications in Go
- Ideally some experience with Python and web development
- Significant experience as a developer/engineer in a large scale, distributed environment
- Significant experience writing secure, testable and robust code
- Experience proactively addressing reliability issues across all layers of the stack
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Oh, and we encourage team members to spend 5-20% of their time on innovation, education, and/or open source

- We reward our employees . The base salary range for this position is between $110,720- $165,000 based on relevant years of experience and skills. The salary range for this role is specific to candidates located within the U.S. and will vary for candidates outside the U.S.. Employees may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees including grants of equity upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
