JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease. Our extensive portfolio includes Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging systems and catheters, drug-eluting stents, bare metal stents, guide wires, balloon dilatation catheters, vessel closure devices and peripheral stents.

Our location in Westford, MA currently has an opportunity for a Senior Engineer - Secure Cloud Connectivity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will be a key member of a team connecting our leading-edge OCT systems to the cloud and protecting them from cybersecurity threats. You will work with a cross-functional team of researchers, developers, systems engineers, marketing and product support to enable secure network and cloud connections to Abbott medical devices to enable rapid software updates and advanced features.
  • Research and plan connectivity and cybersecurity capabilities.
  • Develop requirements to support both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design secure connectivity architectures that meet requirements.
  • Work with R&D team to develop detailed design and interface specifications.
  • Participate in and support the agile development, enhancements, and modifications to software source code, scripts, and procedures.
  • Review project deliverables such as specifications, code, and test/tool procedures for feasibility, thoroughness, clarity, correctness, and accuracy.
  • Provide work direction and mentor other engineers.
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Work with a cross functional team to develop requirements for new features to support multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in developing secure architectures and designs that leverage knowledge of commercial clouds and hospital IT environments
  • Participate in cyber security threat modeling, vulnerability and risk assessments
  • Participate in agile software development teams to develop, troubleshoot, and maintain code
  • Evaluation and assessment of product cyber security threats and incidents
  • Develop and improve a secure software development life cycle
  • Implementation of cyber security updates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required

Minimum 4 years:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years' experience in software development projects through full lifecycle from design to deployment. Medical device experience is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of commercial cloud environments and cyber threats to networked devices.
  • Thorough understanding of regulations and guidance documents related to medical device software development and cyber security and privacy, including FDA and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance.
  • Experience developing cyber security risk assessments and maintenance plans
  • Experience with Windows and Linux based embedded systems
  • C#/C++ and object-oriented programming skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to getting things done
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity in connected environments.
  • Experience in creating requirements for product development
  • Collaboration with business and technical users

Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related engineering field
  • Experience with the development of connected solutions for healthcare applications
  • Experience in Agile developments
  • Medical device experience
