Senior Manager, IT Operations (Cloud Tech)

About the Role:

The transportation industry has no shortage of complex problems requiring creative solutions to scale efficiently. In this role, you will be building and managing teams responsible for building, monitoring, and maintaining our production cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with Mastery’s Cloud and Software engineering teams to develop secure scalable solutions that allow us to make our cloud infrastructure more nimble and highly available.

Responsibilities:

• Manage multiple cloud, software and operations teams responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code, automation, monitoring, alerting and operational runbooks.
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud, and event driven solutions
• Define and enforce cloud budgets for engineering teams to control cloud spend and put a focus on increased performance of software services
• Collaborate with the Cloud Engineering teams to produce internal tooling solutions for our Azure infrastructure
• Regularly reviewing existing systems and make recommendations for improvements
• Meet regularly with all direct reports while leading and growing a team of engineers and mentor your employees to improve performance and develop higher level skills
• Handle planning and breaking down large projects into milestones and identifying risks and dependencies while being responsible for architectural design and influence
• Participate in goal setting and ensure that members of the team understand team goals, strategies, and priorities

Requirements:

• Experience focused on cloud architecture, operations, DevOps, SRE, or administration
• Experience with cloud automation and scripting (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible)
• Experience in containerization and management tools such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm
• Experience in at least one or more programming languages, (e.g., node.js, .Net, Python)
• Experience with continuous integration, delivery, desired state processes tools and constraints
• Some experience with GraphQL and API Gateways
• Ability to evaluate and communicate different engineering solutions and trade-offs in an Agile environment
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical problems to non-technical audiences and the ability to translate customer requirements to technical designs
• Strong leadership skills, ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of individuals to maximize team effectiveness; provide guidance to individuals when needed for coaching or mentoring
• Ability to mediate between competing technical priorities; align priorities and goals through collaboration with technical leads and product managers
• Effectively communicate between teams and within teams to drive alignment and increase effectiveness on delivery
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with a mindset of automate everything, with experience demonstrating this

Preferred Skills:

• Proven working experience with Infrastructure as Code building CI/CD pipelines
• Well-organized project skills. Spreadsheets are your friend, but so are Kanban boards and ticket queues
• Roll up your sleeves and take on development work, when necessary
• Experience with SQL and RDBMS, NoSQL technologies a plus
• Preferred AWS, Azure, GCP cloud computing certifications or equivalent coursework
